Job Summary
Seeking a Data Center Technician to support enterprise data center operations. The ideal candidate will balance strong technical expertise in hardware IT infrastructure and cabling management with excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills. This individual should be self-motivated detail-oriented and possess a positive results-driven attitude.
The technician will also contribute to technical documentation knowledge base articles SOPs and operational process improvements while collaborating with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare stage install configure and decommission data center hardware including racks servers hard drives and switches.
- Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting to quickly identify root causes and replace faulty components with minimal operational disruption.
- Conduct post-deployment quality checks to ensure proper grounding labeling staging and cabling in accordance with deployment and safety standards.
- Support hardware refreshes memory upgrades and operating system rebuilds.
- Escalate incidents and communicate operational issues appropriately to management teams.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and comply with all data center safety procedures and protocols.
- Contribute to team collaboration operational efficiency and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Complete assigned tickets efficiently while meeting KPI and SLA expectations.
- Maintain accountability for service quality operational excellence and customer experience.
- Support business continuity by maintaining a strong understanding of operational impacts and priorities.
- Strong server hardware knowledge with understanding of component and system-level failures.
- Experience assisting with failure analysis and tracking server fleet health trends.
- Hands-on experience with IPMI diagnostics and firmware updates.
- Experience supporting real-time issue resolution during deployments.
- Proficiency with Windows Server OS and WinPE administration.
- Experience with Linux PXE services is a plus.
- Basic scripting knowledge in PowerShell Python or Bash.
- Understanding of Layer 1 Layer 2 and Layer 3 network troubleshooting.
- Experience with virtual machine setup and environment configuration.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within geographically distributed teams.
- 2 years of experience as a Data Center Technician.
- Associate degree in Computer Science Computer Engineering Information Technology or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- CompTIA A or equivalent experience.
- CompTIA Server or equivalent experience.
- CCENT or equivalent networking experience.
- Experience supporting Windows operating systems.
- CCNA certification preferred.
- MCP/MCSE certification preferred.
- Scripting experience preferred (PowerShell Python Bash).
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and safely climb ladders when necessary.
- Ability to wear required PPE and work within data center environments for extended periods.
