Overview:
The Data Analyst supports the Business Intelligence team and functional units across the university system by serving as a point of contact for external and compliance-driven reporting requests and by documenting standardizing and streamlining the universitys growing external reporting operations. This role focuses on academic compliance regulatory and government reporting grant and third-party funding submissions and external reporting for rankings badges and industry-recognized organizations.
The Data Analyst brings modern technical proficiency to ensure reporting processes are sustainable repeatable and well-documented applying strong attention to detail to the varying requirements and definitions attached to each external reporting request. This role requires strong business analysis skills clear stakeholder communication and effective customer management to translate complex reporting requirements into scalable solutions and partners directly with the broader BI department to align on data standards tooling and priorities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Data Analytics Information Systems Statistics Computer Science or a closely related field required. Two years of equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in data analysis reporting or a closely related business analysis function required.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting compliance regulatory or external reporting obligations preferred.
  • Experience with technical documentation of data or reporting requirements in a professional setting preferred.

Compensation is determined based on the qualifications experience and circumstances of each hire. It is uncommon for new employees to start near the top of the salary range. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including a tuition waiver and reimbursement program health insurance paid time off and a retirement savings plan. The salary range for this position is $63240 to $85560.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

External and Compliance Reporting

  • Support the preparation and timely submission of external reports to regulatory government accreditation and third-party entities including academic compliance grant and funding bodies rankings organizations and industry badge and certification programs.
  • Validate data accuracy and completeness for required external submissions by applying defined quality checks review processes and cross-referencing source systems.
  • Research and interpret external reporting specifications standards and submission requirements to ensure institutional responses align with published criteria and timelines.
  • Monitor submission calendars and reporting schedules proactively communicating status and upcoming obligations to relevant stakeholders.

Requirements Documentation and Business Analysis

  • Elicit document and maintain clear reporting requirements from internal stakeholders and external specification sources capturing data logic field definitions field mappings and submission rules in structured accessible formats.
  • Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into technical specifications that support repeatable automated or semi-automated reporting delivery.
  • Develop and maintain standardized intake templates playbooks and documentation formats to streamline the handling of new and recurring external reporting requests.
  • Maintain a requirements library and reporting catalog for all assigned external reporting responsibilities ensuring documentation is current version-controlled and accessible to the team.
  • Identify gaps between current data capabilities and reporting requirements surfacing findings with supporting analysis and recommended next steps.
  • Apply business analysis techniques to assess process workflows data flows and stakeholder needs in order to recommend improvements to reporting design and delivery.

Technical Delivery and Modern Tooling

  • Develop maintain and optimize queries data extracts and reporting pipelines using modern data platforms including Microsoft Fabric Azure and Power BI.
  • Apply automation and repeatability principles to reporting workflows reducing manual effort and improving consistency and auditability across recurring submission cycles.
  • Leverage version control structured documentation and testing practices to ensure reporting outputs are reproducible accurate and supportable over time.
  • Stay current on emerging tools platform capabilities and best practices relevant to external and compliance reporting in higher education environments.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and other BI team members to ensure reporting pipelines align with broader architecture standards including the Medallion lakehouse framework and data governance protocols.
  • Participate actively in BI team planning knowledge-sharing and tooling initiatives to ensure this roles work remains aligned with department-wide standards and priorities.

Stakeholder Engagement and Customer Management

  • Serve as a responsive and professional point of contact for internal customers requesting reporting support managing scope expectations timelines and outcomes effectively.
  • Lead direct requirements-gathering conversations with requesting stakeholders and external partners to clarify scope definitions and deliverables before work begins.
  • Present reporting outputs data summaries and analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear accessible and actionable manner.
  • Collaborate with functional unit partners across the university to align on data needs definitions and reporting priorities.
  • Handle confidential institutional data with the highest degree of professionalism ensuring compliance with FERPA applicable privacy regulations and organizational data governance policies.
