What You Will Do:
Hot Section Engineering (HSE) at Pratt & Whitney is seeking an experienced and selfmotivated individual to join our HSE Core Durability group as the Damage Mechanism Lead supporting improvement of the Durability Design System (DDS). DDS enables durabilityfocused designs and thermal analyses for turbine airfoils bladeouterairseals (BOAS) and combustor components. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills deep understanding of hotsection damage mechanisms (including creep thermomechanical fatigue CMAS infiltration and coating spallation) and experience in solid and fracture mechanics. A major deliverable is the development of reducedorder models for critical damage mechanisms and their implementation into DDS to improve hotsection lifing predictions. The role also includes formalizing processes and documentation to ensure consistency and traceability across durability tools. Close collaboration is expected with Materials and Process Engineering (MPE) as well as external research partners to advance modeling capabilities validate mechanisms and integrate new material data. Familiarity with geometry creation and morphing in Siemens NX is valued for supporting tool development and model integration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop physicsbased models for creep thermomechanical fatigue CMAS infiltration and thermal barrier coating spallation.
- Apply solid and fracture mechanics principles to improve durability predictions and reducedorder damage models.
- Create and formalize processes workflows and documentation for durability modeling integration and validation.
- Coordinate with MPE to define material testing needs and support data interpretation.
- Develop reducedorder models to be incorporated into hotsection lifing tools and DDS.
- Support geometry creation manipulation and morphing in NX to enable consistent model setup and tool workflows.
- Advocate for and coordinate university research efforts; oversee relevant data collection to support mechanism development.
- Benchmark emerging research modeling techniques and material characterization relevant to gas turbine damage mechanisms.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Bachelors degree in Science Technology Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)
- 8 years of engineering experience or an Advanced degree in a related field and 5 years of related engineering experience.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science.
- Understanding of damage mechanisms associated with turbine hardware.
- Experience with solid mechanics and fracture mechanics
- Experience with geometry operations within NX.

Hot Section Engineering is responsible for the design development technology maturation and in service support of all diffuser cases combustors turbines (vanes blades rotors and cases) augmenters (military) nozzles and associated fuel systems for all military commercial and industrial engine models and radial auxiliary power units.
Technical disciplines in HSE include Project Engineering Mechanical Design Structural Analysis Durability and Product Definition.

The salary range for this role is 107500 USD - 204500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
