Custodial Work (Summer Only)

This position is responsible for custodial or maintenance tasks as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains a responsible relationship with students and fellow workers. Serves as a cooperative member of the custodial team avoiding language or actions that do not model high moral standards.
• Promptly reports any deficiencies or interrupted services observed in the course of work assignments.
• Reports any safety sanitary or fire hazards.
• Maintains assigned equipment in safe working order keeping it cleaned and serviced properly. Storage spaces shall remain clean and orderly.
• Uses equipment and supplies in prescribed manner with due caution in protecting health and safety.
• Maintains supplies in secure place with ample notification given if being depleted.
• Assesses priorities manages time and resources appropriately. Strives to accomplish tasks as thoroughly as possible in the least time feasible.
• Works in clothing that is clean and appropriate for a school setting.

Performs (as assigned) general custodial and maintenance duties including but not limited to:

• Floor care: sweeping washing stripping and waxing
• Carpet care: vacuuming spotting shampooing
• Window washing graffiti removal
• Changing lights cleaning fixtures
• Servicing heaters motors cleaning filters
• Wiping walls painting cleaning desks
• Cleaning gutters
• Waste disposal
• Sweeping sidewalks snow/ice removal
• Yard work lawn mowing
• Provides for and double checks building security as appropriate
• Performs other reasonable duties which may be assigned by the maintenance supervisor or superintendent

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Routine job performance requires that the custodians are physically able to meet the following:

• Able to lift carry and pour containers of different cleaning products that can weigh up to 50 lbs. This may involve a twisting motion of the upper body.
• Able to operate (with training) custodial equipment such as a burnisher auto scrubber buffer and extractor. This equipment can involve upper body twisting and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Able to lift mop buckets full of water up to sink height for emptying and cleaning. Weight 35 lbs.
• Able to lift and carry a variety of items including but not limited to; bags of trash desks chairs cabinets boxes of paper books etc. These items can weigh up to 75 lbs. This involves bending and lifting.
• Able to use a 24 to 32 oz. mop for a variety of tasks including but not limited to; mopping stripping and waxing. This involves continued twisting of the upper body.
• Able to operate a commercial upright vacuum. This involves continued upper body twisting bending and lifting.
• Able to work from ladder scaffold or lift if needed.
• Maintain valid Washington State Drivers License.
• Able to operate School District vehicles this includes both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
• Able to set up and take down lunchroom tables on a daily basis. This involves twisting bending and lifting.
• Able to assist in the setup and tear down of stage bleachers and sound systems used during school sports assemblies performances and community functions. This requires lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• The job also includes grounds work. This includes weeding raking shoveling etc. These jobs require bending lifting and twisting. Able to operate (with training) grounds equipment such as a riding mower push mower power brush cutter powered backpack blower and weed burner. This equipment can involve upper body twisting continual pushing motions bending and kneeling. Operation of riding mower means long periods of mower use on sometimes rough terrain.
• Able to perform heavy physical labor able to lift up to 100 lbs. occasionally and work effectively in tight quarters.
