Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent Business Services this position assists with planning organizing coordinating supervising training and evaluating District custodial services; ensuring the proper care and cleaning of District facilities; provides training and supervision of afternoon and night shift custodial services employees and inspects facilities.

TYPICAL DUTIES (Responsibilities will include but are not be limited to):

The Supervisor is responsible for the following duties:

  • Assists with planning organizing coordinating supervising training and evaluating the day-to-day operations of custodial services at all District facilities as assigned.
  • Oversees and supervises afternoon and night shift custodial services employees.
  • Inspects facilities to ensure proper care and cleaning and compliance with guidelines policies and laws.
  • Participates in the selection of personnel provides training to custodial employees assigns and reviews work recommends and participates in disciplinary action.
  • Provides technical expertise and input to site administration for the supervision and evaluation of custodial personnel.
  • Assists in development and preparation of work schedules; reviews custodial reports to determine materials labor and time requirements; prioritizes and coordinates duties and assignments of custodial staff; assures effective work flow and operations of custodial staff.
  • Assists in preparation of recommendations related to staffing levels purchasing of equipment and supplies.
  • Communicates with District and site administrators personnel vendors and others regarding cleaning procedures and products supplies materials and application of cleaning products and chemicals.
  • Assists in the review and revision of work methods and procedures to assure efficiency cost-effectiveness and compliance with established regulations policies and standards of quality.
  • Assists with assigning substitute custodial personnel and emergency assistance to site administrators.
  • Assists in designing and implementing training programs for custodial staff; assists with the development and updating of custodial handbooks rules regulations and procedures.
  • Enforces health and Safety measures and precautions.
  • Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.
  • Utilizes computers and software programs in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Maintains or seeks current information on resources relevant to the position.
  • Performs related duties as assigned

  • Read proofread and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals including policies and procedures and equipment manuals in English
  • Write routine draft instructions reports and correspondence to stakeholders in professional written English

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Office environment

  • Construction environment and possible hazardous conditions (i.e. noise fumes weather moving equipment and machinery etc.)

  • Occasional exposure to loud noises from equipment

  • Driving a vehicle to conduct business

PHYSICAL DEMANDS (consideration will be given to reasonable accommodation):

  • Sit for sustained periods of time

  • Ability to work in a safe and effective manner in the following: at various elevated heights on ladders roofs and in restricted spaces
  • Conduct frequent repetitive arm hand and body motion
  • Sufficient hearing to conduct in-person and telephone conversations
  • Sufficient physical mobility to move about school sites and drive a car
  • Sufficient vision to read printed material
  • Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance on the telephone and in addressing groups
  • Physical mental and emotional stamina to endure long hours under stressful conditions
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  • During crisis situations may require moderate to significant physical work and lengthy periods of standing
  • Physical ability to lift carry push pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance
  • Ability to bend twist kneel and stoop
  • Ability to reach in all directions

OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Willing to work irregular hours/days including evenings weekends and holidays and to be on-call for emergencies
  • Willing to travel locally
  • Willing to work at any school location and be assigned to additional duties as needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of recent custodial work experience
  • Valid California Drivers License
  • Must reside within 45-minutes of the GUSD Administration Office

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College-level course work and/or equivalent level of course work in custodial supervision / management
  • Previous Supervisory Experience
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Yearly Salary: $68426 $87459 (6-step salary schedule salary placement dependent upon related experience)

Yearly Stipends: $1000 for Masters / $1500 Doctorate degrees
