Job Summary

Job Overview:

The Crewman - Beautification role maintains community aesthetics and safety by executing targeted vegetation control on municipal right-of-ways public sidewalks and FEMA buyout properties as well as other locations throughout the City of West Monroe. This role directly supports broader city beautification initiatives by preventing wild overgrowth and assisting general crew operations as assigned.


SPECIFIC TASKS DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Right-of-Way Maintenance: Mow weed-eat and clear wild overgrowth along municipal right-of-ways and public sidewalks.
  • FEMA Property Care: Perform routine mowing brush clearing and litter removal on designated FEMA buyout properties.
  • Beautification Support: Provide manual labor support to the broader crew for non-horticultural tasks like large-scale debris removal or event setup.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate commercial mowers (zero-turn and walk-behind) string trimmers edgers blowers and hand tools.
  • Public Safety: Report structural damage illegal dumping or hazardous sight-line obstructions tothe supervisor.
  • Debris & Litter Clearing: Clean up trash limbs and hazards from lawns and sidewalks before and after mowing operations.
  • Equipment & Supply Loading: Safely load unload and secure mowers trimmers and fuel containers onto trucks and trailers daily.
  • Safe Driving & Transport: Drive municipal trucks with attached trailers to transport equipment safely between various city job sites.
  • Public Safety: Report structural damage illegal dumping or hazardous sight-line obstructions to the director.


WORKER REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Drivers License


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Constant exposure to outdoor weather conditions including extreme heat humidity rain and cold.
  • Frequent exposure to dust pollen flying debris loud machinery noise and vibrations.
  • Ability to stand walk bend and kneel for extended periods across uneven or sloped terrain.
  • Capability to safely lift carry and push equipment weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Mandatory use of safety gear including boots high-visibility vests safety glasses and hearing protection.



HOURS/SCHEDULING

  • Standard Shift:40 hours per week typically scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to4:00PM.
  • Seasonal Shifts:Subject to early morning start times during summer months to mitigate heat exposure 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM during summer.
  • Weather Variance: Schedule may shift or require make-up hours due to rain delays or extreme weather events.
  • Overtime: Occasional weekend or holiday shifts required for special city events or emergency storm cleanup.
