Job Summary
- Description
The Crew Chief is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the Facilities Maintenance crew. This is a supervisory position reporting directly to the Assistant Facilities Superintendent.
- Examples of Duties
- Supervise and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Facilities Maintenance crew.
- Receive assign and manage maintenance requests through the Citys work order software.
- Provide work orders verbal direction and task assignments related to the maintenance and repair of City facilities.
- Identify prioritize and oversee the repair of maintenance issues throughout City facilities.
- Determine work procedures prepare work schedules and assist in improving workflow efficiency and effectiveness of maintenance operations.
- Assist the Assistant Facilities Superintendent with planning scheduling and coordinating work orders projects preventative maintenance and facility repairs.
- Assist with maintaining and implementing the preventative maintenance schedule for City buildings and facility systems.
- Perform and oversee routine facility maintenance tasks including but not limited to changing air filters replacing water filters replacing ceiling tiles and completing general facility repairs.
- Respond to emergency facility issues including water leaks HVAC concerns electrical issues and other urgent maintenance needs.
- Maintain records of work performed maintenance activities and materials used through the Citys work order system.
- Assist with ordering tracking and maintaining supplies materials and equipment needed for facility maintenance operations.
- Provide courteous and professional service when responding to employee maintenance requests throughout the City.
- Coordinate with contractors vendors and City departments as directed.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.
- Typical Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of general facility maintenance practices including painting plumbing masonry and roofing.
- Ability to lead train and assist maintenance staff in daily work assignments.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills related to facility repairs and maintenance issues.
- Ability to use and maintain hand tools power tools maintenance equipment and facility-related materials safely and effectively.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Basic skills in Microsoft Word & Excel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Constant exposure to all weather conditions (sometimes severe).
- Walking on uneven surfaces bending kneeling squatting and twisting.
- Exposure to airborne dust and loud noises.
- Frequent climbing of ladders of up to 12 above ground.
- Driving and working on slippery surfaces.
- Working with toxic substances.
- Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds lifting above shoulders.
- Ability to work in confined and cramped spaces repetitive hand motion climb in/out of ditches turn valves lift and carry pipes dig ditches.
- Continuous standing frequent walking and stooping reaching pushing/pulling and twisting of wrist in use of tools small motor skills and climbing flights of stairs.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
- Analyze facility related problems identify issues develop recommendations for repair and implement solutions.
- Apply sound judgment.
- Schedule supervise develop train and evaluate employees.
- Works in all weather conditions and may be exposed to dust dirt noise chemicals motorized moving equipment electricity and uneven surfaces.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED.
