Position: Cosmetology Instructor
Supervisor:Director of CTE/Executive Directory of Secondary
Salary: As perBerkeleyCounty pay schedule
Length of Employment: 200 Days

The Cosmetology Instructor is assigned to deliver a comprehensiveeducational program in accordance with federal/state law WestVirginia Board of Education and county policies/regulations usingtheir skills and knowledge to train students in cosmetology skills.

Requirements:

Must have a current/valid West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologist license andinstructor license.

Must pass the Basic Skills Test through Marshall Universitys Career Technical Education (CTE)Teaching Certification program.

Must complete 18 hours of required coursework for the CTE Permit through a WVDE approvedCTE Teaching Certification program.

Wage-Earning Experience Complete four years (8000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the occupation for which licensure is requested; OR

Bachelors Degree. Hold a bachelors degree AND complete two years (4000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested; OR

Associate Degree. Hold an Associate Degree in an area related to the specialization AND complete two (2) years (4000 clock hours) of satisfactory and reasonably continuous work experience in the area for which licensure is requested.

Completion of a full year of training from an approved education program in the specialization may count toward a half year of the work experience requirements. Relevant teaching experience may count as equal to work experience requirements. Must complete all requirements of the WV Department of Education in order to obtain

and maintain a West Virginia teaching license

Responsibilities:
1. Extensive understanding of cosmetology and/or barbering
2. Maintain and follow all guidelines and records including but not limited to student records
documents purchases and receipts as required by the WVDE and the WV Board of Barbers
and Cosmetologists.
3. Maintain program to the standards of the WV Department of Education and the WV Board
of Barbers and Cosmetologists.
4. Supervise and monitor students use of tools and equipment.
5. Observe and evaluate students work to determine progress provide feedback and make
suggestions for improvement.
6. Modify where appropriate instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student
needs.
7. Determine training needs of students or workers.
8. Administer oral written or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training
effectiveness.
9. Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades attendance rolls and training
activity details.
10. Conduct on-the-job training classes or training sessions to teach and demonstrate
principles techniques procedures or methods of the cosmetology curriculum.
11. Integrate academic and vocational curricula so that students can obtain a variety of skills.
12. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
13. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
14. Develop curriculum of the cosmetology program and plan course content and methods of
instruction.
15. Develop teaching aids using a variety of instructional software and multimedia materials.
16. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students colleagues staff
and administrators as an individual or as a part of a team.
17. Participate in professional development such as conferences seminars and training
sessions to keep abreast of developments in the cosmetology field integrating relevant
information into the training programs.
18. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building administrator.
