It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position is responsible for providing supervision for subordinate staff conducting shift line-up making shift assignments and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. This position is responsible for conducting investigations and performs searches of persons places and objects. Responsible for completing reviewing and maintaining time reports duty roster leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms. Makes security inspections of the facility and grounds; monitors posts to ascertain that officers are alert that discipline is being maintained and that assignments are carried out properly. Perform rescue functions to include CPR basic first aid physically removing people from dangerous areas and using firefighting equipment to include fire hoses extinguishers and breathing apparatus. Responsible for identifying training needs and coordinates delivery of training to subordinate staff. Accounts for persons and funds and ensures that all equipment is operationally ready for use. This position works closely with and reports directly to the Correctional Captain III.

Salary Range: 45431.00-$79504.00

• Documented experience with report writing.

• Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum medium close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety security and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff program facilitators and administrative personnel.

  High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant III; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
