Description of Work

This position is a supervisory position in the food service department at Johnston Correctional Institution. This position is responsible for supervising the correctional food service officers and maintaining the presentation of meals to the inmates at this facility that are safe healthy and properly prepared.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

This position is assigned to the Food Service area at a minimum custody facility. Applicant must have the ability to communicate verbally & in writing; comprehend & abide by verbal and written instructions; work a varied schedule & return to work during emergencies; effectively subdue & restrain violent inmates; distinguish color codes used for emergencies & security purposes. Tolerate verbal & mental abuse from inmates; secure & maintain equipment; observe sanitary food handling practices; understand food nutritional values; inventory & rotate stock; complete & maintain work schedules for subordinates; requisition food & supplies within budget; identify & coordinate training; make emergency decisions concerning food service operations; plan and develop operating procedures.

Salary Range: $37377 - $65408 Salary Grade: NC07

Documented knowledge of large-scale food production and food service activities.

Documented supervision of employees and/or inmate workers.

MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

About The Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum medium close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety security and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff program facilitators and administrative personnel.
