The Coordinator of Residence Life is a live-on full-time professional staff member within Housing & Residential Life and serves as a key contributor to the Residence Life team. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a supportive safe and engaging living-learning environment that promotes student success belonging and holistic development.
The Coordinator provides leadership for one or more residential communities through student engagement staff supervision program implementation community standards enforcement and crisis response. This role requires strong interpersonal skills knowledge of student development theory and a commitment to fostering student-centered communities.
This is a live-on position requiring residence within assigned campus housing.
The salary isdeterminedin accordance withthe Universitys compensation structure and will becommensuratewith the candidates education and experience within the assigned salary range for this position.
Responsibilities:
Community Development & Student Support
- Foster a positive residential environment that promotes student engagement academic success and personal development.
- Develop implement and assess educational social and community-building programs aligned with departmental learning outcomes.
- Build relationships with residents and connect students with campus resources and support services.
- Promote a community that supports student engagement and well-being.
Supervision & Leadership
- Recruit train supervise and evaluate student staff including Resident Assistants (RAs) and Desk Assistants (DAs). May supervise Graduate Assistants (GAs) or other student staff.
- Provide ongoing training mentorship and performance feedback to student staff.
- Facilitate regular staff meetings and development sessions.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive Residence Life team environment.
Operations & Administrative Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned residential communities including facilities safety and security.
- Coordinate housing processes such as check-in/check-out room changes and assignments in collaboration with Housing Operations.
- Maintain accurate records related to occupancy incidents programming and student interactions.
- Assist with summer housing camps and conference operations.
Student Conduct & Crisis Response
- Serve in a rotating on-call duty schedule to respond to emergencies and crisis situations.
- Enforce university policies and residence hall regulations through student conduct processes.
- Mediate conflicts and address behavioral concerns among residents.
- Provide support and referrals for students experiencing academic personal or social challenges.
Departmental Division & Professional Engagement
- Participate in departmental divisional and university committees and initiatives.
- Engage in professional development opportunities including regional and national associations.
- Support departmental programming training and strategic initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in higher education student affairs counseling or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One (1) year of experience in residence life or related areas including: a) student staff supervision b) Residence hall operations and c) student development programming
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters degree in higher education student affairs or related field.
- Two (2) or more years of professional experience in Housing & Residence Life.
- Previous experience or working knowledge with a) staff supervision and training b) crisis response and conduct processes c) residential curriculum or engagement models or d) housing and student conduct systems (e.g. StarRez Maxient Roompact Transact).
- Knowledge of student development theory and residential education practices.
- Strong conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships and support student populations.
Licensing / Professional Certification:
- Valid drivers license required.
- Must be eligible to operate university vehicles in accordance with institutional policies.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work evenings weekends and extended hours as needed.
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency response.
- Ability to respond to student and facility incidents within residential communities.
- Commitment to fostering a safe student-centered residential environment.
- Compliance with all university Texas A&M University System and state regulations and policies.
Special Requirements:
- Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelors degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelors degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of five years of experience.
