About this Position

The Career Coach is responsible for providing proactive high-impact career development support to engage undergraduate graduate students and alumni with a primary emphasis on third and fourth-year undergraduate students and graduate students as they explore career pathways experiential learning opportunities research activities and other professional skill development. This position serves as a partner to the career coaches in the academic colleges to ensure every student develops a strong foundation for career readiness and long-term success.

Through individual appointments career-related workshops college partnerships and large-scale outreach initiatives the Career Coach helps students identify strengths clarify career interests and direction connect academic experiences to workforce opportunities and engage with Career Services resources throughout their college experience.

This position collaborates closely with the academic colleges Student Affairs departments the Graduate College as well as faculty academic advisors employer relations staff and other campus partners to integrate and assess career development throughout the student experience and advance the universitys commitment to career readiness for all students participating in departmental and university-wide career readiness initiatives assessing program effectiveness and contributing to positive student career outcomes. Other duties as assigned.

The hours for this position are 8:00am 5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend work required for career programming and special events.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors

    Required Field of Study: Business Communications Education Human Development Psychology or related field.

    (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Career Services Coordinator- One year of related experience.

    Career Services Coordinator II- Three years of related experience OR Two years of related experience and demonstrated progress toward an applicable advanced degree.

    Senior Career Services Coordinator- Five years of related experience OR Three years of related experience and demonstrated progress toward an applicable advanced degree.

    Senior Career Services Coordinator II- Seven years of related experience OR Masters Degree and Five years of related experience and demonstrated progress toward an applicable advanced degree.

Post-secondary education may substitute for years of required experience.

Certifications Registrations and/or Licenses:

Certified Career Services Provider Global Career Development Facilitator Strong Interest Inventory Certification Myers Briggs Type Indicator or similar Career Services-affiliated certifications will be required within 2 years of hire date. Ability to obtain GCDF CCSP or other Career Services credentials within one year of hire.

Skills Proficiencies and/or Knowledge:

Excellent Public Speaking Skills Resource/Curriculum development Attention to detail Strong collaboration skill

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters

    Higher Education Counseling Human Development Student Affairs Business Communications Education Psychology or related field.

  • Experience providing educational or career support to undergraduate and graduate student populations. Higher education experience in career services or related student facing positions

Certifications Registrations and/or Licenses:

Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) Certified Career Counselor (CCC) or Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) certification or ability to obtain within one year of employment.

Skills Proficiencies and/or Knowledge:

  • Ability to design proactive outreach strategies that increase student engagement and utilization of career services.

  • Experience using CRM systems student success platforms or predictive analytics tools to identify and engage student populations.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate campus-wide initiatives involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to develop scalable programming that reaches large undergraduate and graduate populations while maintaining personalized student support.

  • Understanding of experiential learning models career readiness competencies and workforce preparation strategies for third and fourth year undergraduate students graduate students and alumni.
