Job Summary
Regional West Medical Center is seeking a dependable and skilled Cook to join our Food Services Team. This role plays a vital part in preparing and serving nutritious high-quality meals that support the health and well-being of patients staff and visitors. Working in a fast-paced healthcare environment the Cook ensures meals are prepared safely accurately and on time while following physician-ordered diets dietary restrictions and food safety standards.
A Day in the Life
As a Cook your day begins by reviewing production schedules diet orders and menu requirements to ensure every meal meets clinical and nutritional guidelines. You prepare cook and portion meals according to standardized recipes and therapeutic diet needs paying close attention to detail so each tray is accurate and appropriate for the individual patient.
Throughout your shift you maintain a strong focus on food quality presentation and temperature control while working efficiently in a dynamic kitchen environment. You operate and clean a variety of kitchen equipment safely and help ensure all food is stored labeled and rotated properly to maintain freshness and compliance.
You collaborate closely with staff dietitians and other team members to ensure patient satisfaction and nutritional accuracy. Whether youre assisting with tray line operations supporting café service or helping with special events you step in where needed to keep operations running smoothly.
You also play an important role in maintaining a clean sanitary kitchen by following strict food safety infection control and sanitation protocols. From completing cleaning assignments to adhering to HACCP guidelines you help ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff.
By the end of your day youve contributed to delivering meals that not only meet healthcare standards but also enhance the patient experience through care consistency and quality.
Qualifications
Education
- Must be able to read understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Experience
- Previous cooking experience preferred healthcare or institutional food service experience a plus
- Strong knowledge of food safety sanitation and safe food handling practices
- Ability tow work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
Certification
- ServSafe certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
Work Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods including entire shifts
- Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds from floor to waist level
- Ability to work safely around kitchen equipment cleaning chemicals and hot surfaces
- Strong attention to cleanliness safety and detail
- Ability to follow recipes instructions and dietary guidelines accurately
- Flexibility to work days evenings nights weekends and holidays
