Position Highlights

The University is looking for a Cook I to prepare season and cook a wide variety of food for various food service units. This position also cooks according to recipes and requires knowledge of basic kitchen equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepares food on hot or cold productionline adhering to the recipes method of preparation.
  • Prepares food items from recipes forrestaurant on a daily basis.
  • Coordinates food preparation needs withsupervisor and p.m. staff.
  • Coordinates ordering needs withsupervisor and p.m. staff.
  • Performs food preparation tasks such assandwich salad making and beverage preparation following written standardizedrecipes.
  • Cleans and processes fruits andvegetables according to recipes specifications.
  • Labels dates and stores fruits andvegetables in proper areas.
  • Assembles necessary ingredients toprepare orders.
  • Labels and dates products.
  • Assists cold food production whenpossible.
  • Prevents cross contamination of foodproducts.
  • Weighs labels and dates all food itemsstores in designated areas.
  • Cleans countertops windows wallsshelves drain screens and floor mats.
  • Cleans cooking utensils grills ovenhoods and other equipment used in food preparation; ensure all utensils areproperly stored.
  • Empties sanitizer and takes out trash.
  • Greets and serves customers in a friendlycourteous manner.
  • Actively solves problems whereverpossible.
  • Works harmoniously with co-workerssupervisors and management.
  • Additional duties as assigned bysupervisor.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of food service operationsincluding large quantity food preparation.
  • Knowledge of job content practices andprocedures.
  • Skills necessary to fully perform allaspects of the job.
  • Skill in operating variousinstitutional/commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally lift transfer or move amaximum of 50 lbs.
