NOTE: The below lists are not ranked in order of importance

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  2. Civil Service eligibility
  3. Minimum of one (1) year experience in food service preparation
  4. Physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds
  5. Good physical stamina requiring intermittent standing walking and lifting
  6. Pass FBI/BCI background check
  7. Ability to read and understand menus and standardized recipes
  8. Knowledgeable of food safety and sanitation procedures
  9. Experience in correct preparation techniques
  10. Excellent understanding of various cooking methods ingredients equipment and procedures
  11. Familiar with industry best practices and meal requirements
  12. Able to multitask prioritize and manage time efficiently
  13. Self Motivated
  14. Self-Directed

  5. The desire to preserve and enhance the reputation of the CCSD Child Nutrition Department and to expand the offerings to students

Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of a Cook include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Assemble ingredients for menus and recipes. USDA recipes and CCSD recipes are created to meet the nutritional guidelines established by the USDA. Recipes should be followed as written and not altered to personal preference. Changes to recipes must be approved by Child Nutrition Supervisor.
  2. Produce meals that smell good taste good and are appealing to the eye.
  3. Collaborate with the Kitchen Manager regarding daily meal preparation as well as special events or special occasion menus.
  4. Operate all food service equipment and use preparation tools safely and in the means they were intended to be used.
  5. Set up and maintain the serving line with adequate food and replenish when necessary monitoring food quality and temperature during service time.
  6. Properly label stored food items at appropriate temperatures
  7. Assist with inventory and communicate items for reordering.
  8. Clean and sanitize the kitchen preparation areas food service equipment and cafeteria area as needed adhering to safety and sanitation standards at all times.
  9. Complete daily paperwork required by Canton City Schools offices Canton City Health Department Ohio Department of Education and USDA. Paperwork could include but not limited to Production Sheets Inventory Meal Counts Temperature Logs etc.
  10. Able to work other scheduled times during employee absences and when necessary to appropriately run kitchen operations.
  11. Demonstrate excellent customer service with a positive attitude and demeanor when dealing with students staff and community patrons fielding all complaints promptly answering questions and making healthy food suggestions.
  12. Follow all food safety standards and guidelines outlined by the Canton City Health Department and the Ohio Department of Education. A Cook will also comply with and maintain any food safety training established by Canton City Schools Canton City Health Department and the Ohio Department of Education.
  13. Follow all National School Lunch and Breakfast guidelines established by the USDA and the Ohio Department of Education. A Cook will complete any required training/professional development required by Canton City School District Ohio Department of Education and USDA.
  14. Understand and maintain the academic and behavioral standards set for the students by the Board of Education acting in a professional and respectful manner. A Cook will cooperate with others work as a member of a team and create a pleasant working environment for all Canton City Child Nutrition employees.
