Job Summary
Cooks at UWM perform a variety of food preparation activities and related tasks according to quality and safety standards in dining retail and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve departmental food service goals. Thisposition works closely with students student managers andlimited-termemployees.
Availability/Schedule- Various days times and shift options are available including:
Monday - Friday: 5:00am - 1:30pm
Monday - Friday: 8:00am - 4:30pm
Monday - Friday: 12:00pm - 8:30pm
Tuesday - Saturday:11:00am-7:30pm and 9:00am-5:30pm (Saturday)
Sunday - Thursday: 11:00am - 7:30pm and 10:00am - 6:30pm (Sunday)
- Perform routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook-to-order and specialty foods (50%)
- Train and guide student workers (20%)
- Greets customers answers questions and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities (10%)
- Adheres to federal state campus and local safety regulations policies and procedures (10%)
- Cleans inspects and maintains bakery equipment and work areas to ensure adherence to safe food quality handling and sanitation processes and procedures(10%)
Dining and Retail Services
$18.00 - $20.00 an hour
Experience in various food service concepts (Full service quick service etc.)
At least two years of experience preparing food in a commercial kitchen environment
Basic cooking skills: Sauteing Broiling Frying Roasting Butchery Garde Manger Pantry Breakfast Cookery etc.
Supervisor or Lead worker experience in a food service environment (training assigning tasks and scheduling of subordinate staff)
Experience cooking food according to recipes quality standards presentation standards and food preparation checklists
Experience working in higher education hotel hospital or institutional facility
Associates Degree or higher in Culinary Arts or related field
ServSafe Sanitation Certification or equivalent
