SUMMARY

Performs journey level work installing performing preventive maintenance on and repairing electrical and mechanical systems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport with an emphasis on conveyor and loading bridge systems. Provides lead direction and training to other employees. Performs other general building maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary to keep buildings in working order.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installation preventive maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical systems with an emphasis on automated baggage conveyors and passenger loading bridge systems including specific tasks such as changing motors bearings gearbox reducers and loading bridge tire repairs.
  • General Industrial electrical installation and troubleshooting including 277/480V 3-phase 120/208 3-phase110 VAC and 24VDC systems
  • General troubleshooting of PLCs Motor Controls including Motor Starters Variable Frequency AC/DC Drives Network Systems and HMIs.
  • Maintenance and repair of Ground Power Units which provide power to aircraft while docked to the Loading Bridge
  • General building maintenance work including manual labor incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
  • Compile lists of equipment tools and supplies needed. Track and order parts to maintain inventory.
  • Operate cars vans lifts bucket trucks and other heavy equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of other airport systems including electrical plumbing generators emergency systems aircraft fueling systems and electrical vehicle chargers.
  • Work in close proximity to aircraft while performing repair and maintenance to passenger boarding bridges and associated ground support equipment.
  • Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • Three years of related experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training education and experience that provides the required skills knowledge and abilities.

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • North Carolina State Electrical License Preferred and/or
  • PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) experience and/or
  • Automated electrical/electronic control experience

COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PERFORMANCE OF JOB DUTIES:


Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of electrical/mechanical control systems such as PLCs VFDs start-stop stations and relay logic controls.

Skill in:

  • Skills to perform journey level work on electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Skills to read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships
  • Performing a variety of duties often changing from one task to another of a different nature
  • Skills to calculate cost estimates and measure items.

Ability to:

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers tenants and the public and represent the airport in a professional and positive manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Spends about 70% of the time standing bending reaching walking and driving. The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting twisting keeling squatting crawling lifting shoveling and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. About 5% of time can lift pull or carry up to 100 lbs. a short distance with another person.
  • Works inside and outside. May include exposure to machinery dust chemicals fumes solvents moving objects/vehicles scaffolding ladders vibrating tools excessive noise large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces. Uses a variety of electrical and hand tools.

Positions in this class typically require grasping stooping squatting kneeling crouching reaching pushing talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.


Physical Requirements:

  • Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting standing climbing or walking extended periods of time
  • Moderate to Heavy lifting and carrying; regular crouching stooping squatting crawling reaching pushing and pulling when performing tasks
  • Adequate vision hearing and speech required

General Information:

  • Standard shift hours apply. Hours subject to change and overtime. Works assigned shift subject to emergency call back to work during emergencies urgent situations special events and inclement weather.
  • Valid drivers license with no more than 6 points and the ability to obtain and maintain a city driving permit.
