Job Description
The Utah Department of Agriculture is lookingfor a Meat Inspector to partnership with our plant owners and ensure meatproducts are clean wholesome and properly labeled. You will gain handson experience inspecting meat slaughter and processing establishments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ante-mortem and Post-mortem inspection for livestock.
- Inspections of processing plants.
- Work in conditions ranging from 100 degrees to freezing temperatures.
- Red meat viscera inspection requires palpitation of organs and slicing with extremely sharp knives.
- Check color and abnormalities of product that would make it unfit for human consumption.
- Driving to different regions to inspect meat establishments.
- Perform Sanitation Standards and Operating Procedures Hazardous Analysis and Consumer Protection tasks.
Qualifications
- Safe operation of either a Stateownedor personal vehicle is required to perform State business and anacceptable safe driving record must be maintained.
- Perform complex inspections to ensure continuouscompliance with State and Federal rules and regulations.
- Evaluates livestock or poultry prior to slaughterfor eligibility.
- Ensures compliance with humane handling oflivestock.
- Performs ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection oflivestock and poultry.
- Evaluates and reviews establishment procedures andimplementation of written programs.
- Prepares and distributes reports andcorrespondence conducts and documents meetings.
- Performs daily sanitation inspections bothpre-operational and operational.
- Schedules and performs inspection tasks forverification of compliance.
- Documents findings of noncompliance takes controlwhen warranted.
