Construction Manager
Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a Construction Manager (CM) to support the construction of water and wastewater treatment facilities and utilities located in the Coastal regions of South Carolina and Georgia (primarily based out of the Charleston SC or Savannah GA offices). The CM will manage the construction coordination documentation and inspection activities for various water and wastewater facilities. Travel within the area may be required.

Key Responsibilities:
Generally job duties will be to lead and complete construction management tasks and assignments serve as a construction/project manager and interface with clients as it relates to the delivery of water sewer and stormwater related projects. You will be expected to act independently during the execution of construction management responsibilities fully manage projects throughout the construction and commissioning lifecycle supervise construction observers be responsible for effectively managing Hazens quality schedules and budgets and serve as a mentor to other Hazen construction management staff. More specifically job duties may include:
- Conducting on-site observations monitoring inspection and evaluation of construction activities to ensure compliance with Contract Drawings and Specifications.
- Managing and preparing requests for proposals verifying material quantities and reviewing payment applications.
- Reviewing and interpreting Contract Documents including project specifications and drawings.
- Verifying and tracking work in accordance with approved shop drawing submittals.
- Processing and review of RFIs and shop drawings prepared by the Contractor.
- Reviews Contractors schedules monthly pay estimates and manages the review of change orders.
- Assisting and coordinating with project start-up testing checkout and training activities.
- Coordinating and facilitating communication between the Contractor and Owner to ensure construction activities do not impact Owner operations.
- Coordinating and communicating with multi-discipline Hazen teams owner contractor and third-party inspection/testing firms.
- Ability to serve as official point of contact for written notice of claims and able to issue the Engineers final decision or Owners contract specific equivalent.
- Using cloud-based software for project documentation such as PROCORE Unifier e-Builder Autodesk Construction Cloud etc.
- Interfacing with clients and performing client management activities as required.
- Assisting Hazen engineering design teams to provide constructability reviews and VE reviews.
- Other Construction and Project management activities as required.
Required Qualifications:
- 7 years relevant construction experience in heavy civil mechanical and/or electrical construction preferably in the water/wastewater industry.
- 5 years of full-time project site CM experience.
- Bachelors degree in engineering or construction management is preferred.
- Familiarity with construction methods typical of civil structural and mechanical engineering and construction materials testing.
- Understands and is proficient with standard construction contract language risk and claims management.
- Ability to independently manage/coordinate medium to large sized projects and supervise/train Field Coordinators as needed.
- Applicants must have a valid drivers license and method of transportation.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Able to easily move around active construction site safely and effectively.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) are required and the ability to learn construction specific software use (i.e. Autodesk Construction Cloud Procore Bluebeam etc.).
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) OSHA 10 certification and/or other industry certifications are plus.
