Job Summary

The General Superintendent provides portfolio-level field leadership for Marian Construction and is accountable for consistent predictable execution across all active projects. This role exists to ensure field operating systems are fully installed standards are enforced uniformly and execution outcomes are reliable without heroics.
The General Superintendent produces results by enforcing the Foreman and Superintendent Operating Systems at scale inspecting outcomes across projects aligning staffing to project complexity and risk removing systemic constraints and developing field leadership capability. This role does not manage day-to-day project execution. Crews Foremen and Superintendents execute the work; the General Superintendent leads through standards inspection coaching and escalation.
The General Superintendent serves as the senior field authority and primary steward of execution discipline across the portfolio.
Time Allocation: 45% inspection and verification; 30% coaching and leader development; 15% systemic constraint removal and staffing alignment; 10% executive coordination and escalation.

Endorse Standards (Advanced Field System Leadership)
Enforce Superintendent Operating System rhythms across assigned projects or phases.
Ensure Superintendents and Foremen operate planning tools fill-in sheets scorecards and logs consistently.
Train and reinforce advanced sequencing handoff safety and quality standards.
Protect role clarity: Senior Superintendent leads through system enforcement and coaching-not task takeover.
Inspect for Results (Complex Execution Verification)
Inspect execution across scopes phases and projects against commitments and sequence.
Verify make-ready discipline is upheld under complex conditions.
Inspect safety and quality using structured audits and checklist verification.
Verify closure of constraints corrective actions and recovery plans with evidence.
Lead & Mentor Superintendents and Foremen
Provide coaching and mentoring to Project Superintendents and Foremen.
Set clear expectations for execution discipline leadership behaviors and accountability
Lead Personnel Same Page Meetings for assigned leaders when required.
Intervene decisively when performance trends turn red.
Recovery Leadership & Risk Escalation
Lead recovery planning when milestones or commitments are threatened.
Coordinate cross-scope and cross-project sequencing adjustments.
Escalate systemic risks to the General Superintendent with evidence and recommended actions.
Verify recovery actions are executed and sustained.
Field Problem Solving (Advisory Not Ownership)
Provide expert field input on complex execution sequencing safety quality or constructability issues when requested or when systemic risk is identified.
Contribute analysis options and recommendations to support Superintendent and Project-level decision-making.
Do not assume ownership of execution after providing guidance; accountability for implementation remains with the assigned Superintendent or Foreman.
Ensure all major field decisions influenced by the General Superintendent are clearly documented communicated and reflected in plans commitments and logs.
Enforce standards regardless of involvement; General Superintendent input does not override operating system requirements inspection discipline or accountability expectations.
Follow-Up & Accountability (Close Loops)
Ensure commitments constraints and corrective actions are formally closed.
Require learning capture to prevent repeat failures.
Hold Superintendents accountable for sustained improvement-not temporary fixes.
Hold Superintendents and Foremen accountable for operating system compliance KPI performance and execution discipline.
Require evidence-based verification of commitments corrective actions and recovery plans.
Intervene when performance trends turn red but do not absorb responsibility for execution.
Escalate staffing capability or conduct issues promptly to protect safety quality and delivery predictability.
Ensure accountability is applied promptly consistently and fairly across all projects and leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
Extensive experience leading large complex or multi-project construction portfolios.
Proven success installing and enforcing standardized field operating systems.
Advanced understanding of construction sequencing safety systems and quality management.
Demonstrated ability to develop and coach senior field leaders.
Strong executive communication and decision-making capability.
Ability to identify systemic risks and act decisively to remove them.
Applicant must demonstrate discipline accountability and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Ability to read and interpret drawings specifications and schedules.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints specifications and schedules.
Excellent written/oral communication and negotiation skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this role the employee is regularly required to listen and take notes type on a computer and speak on calls and in person.
This position will work in both a professional office environment and on active project sites. While on site the employee must be able to navigate construction areas including walking long distances on uneven terrain climbing stairs or ladders and standing for extended periods.

This is a salaried position that may require investment of time and effort beyond a standard workday to ensure safe and predictable execution.
Position is fast-paced deadline-oriented and requires frequent coordination with others.

Travel within 150 miles of the home office may occasionally be required. Out-of-state travel may be required for partner meetings continuing education or project development.
