Summary Description:
AMC has beeninvolved in virtually every major land conservation effort in the region sincethe early 1900s beginning with our leadership in the creation of the WhiteMountain National Forest through passage of the Weeks Act in 1911. Conservationat AMC is a unique grouping representing 3 major areas of AMC work: researchtrails and policy. As a large landowner in Maine AMC has created a new modelfor conservation by blending recreation forestry education and communitypartnerships. Through our Maine Woods Initiative AMC owns and manages 75000acres of forestland and 3 sporting camps in the 100 Mile Wilderness region eastof Moosehead Lake.


As AMCs work in Maine continues to grow we are looking foran excellent communicator with demonstrated experience in collaborative work tojoin our team. The Maine Conservation Policy Associate supports AMCs policypriorities builds networks of advocates and outdoor recreationists to supportour work and manages outward facing programs including the Great Maine OutdoorWeekend and the Maine Outdoor Coalition.

This full-timeexempt position offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits. Theposition is based at AMCs Portland Maine office and regional travel isexpected.

Primary Responsibilities:


- Implement and grow the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend abiannual event that connects thousands of Mainers with outdoor activities.

- Serve as a core member of the Maine Outdoor CoalitionSteering Committee to build a network of stakeholders and support coordinationwithin the outdoor community.

- Support the work of the Maine Policy Manager on a definedspectrum of conservation and recreation issues at the state and federal levels.

- Engage with a variety of AMC stakeholders includingmembers the Maine Chapter Executive Committee outside partners and thegeneral public.

- Staff and table at events festivals and conferencesacross the state to promote AMC.


Qualifications and Experience:


- Experiencein political advocacy organizing or policy with an interest in environmentaland conservation related issues.

- Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills and familiarity with social networkingtools for advocacy specifically blogging and other web advocacy tools.

- Demonstratedexperience in project management and ability to work collaboratively.

- Mustbe organized accurate and able independently to perform a variety of taskswith flexibility and creativity.

- Workingknowledge of Microsoft Office.

- Must havea valid drivers license and willingness to travel as needed.

- Ability towork some weekends and evenings.
