Components Lab Team Leader

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking an experienced laboratory technician to join our team as a Components Laboratory Team Leader in Madison AL. This position is responsible for the safe handling and processing of blood and blood components and for performing daily supervisory duties. The selected candidate will be working in a highly regulated environment to prepare components intended for transfusion.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws
• Prepare blood and blood products
• Perform cell washing for units as deemed necessary by the Components Laboratory Supervisor
• Rejuvenate and freeze selected units for extended storage
• Ensure workflow and production in the lab is at the target level
• Perform and/or monitor quality control (QC) on all blood products and equipment
• Train coworkers/subordinates after successfully completing classroom on-the-job and other training as required
• May be called in after hours or weekends to perform needed procedures

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Six months of components experience and completion of all relevant training modules
• Must have good manual dexterity and the ability to operate equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form
• Ability to do basic math including addition subtraction proportions percentages scientific notation etc.
• Must be able to work evenings weekends and holidays
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing walking lifting grasping and repetitive motion. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional stooping squatting pushing pulling climbing overhead lifting
• Associates degree preferred
• Valid drivers license preferred
• Medical Technologist (MT) license or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification preferred
