WIC CERTIFICATION AND CLIENT SERVICES
- Complete the WIC certification process including performing nutritional and breastfeeding assessment using motivational interviewing and person-centered counseling; anthropometric measurement hemoglobin and lead testing; immunization assessment; and referral to health care providers and community agencies.
- Monitor participant follow-up and modify plan of care.
- Determine WIC eligibility by identifying risk factors; issue WIC benefits.
- Complete required documentation in the WIC Medical Information System (ROSIE) as outlined in the Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual.
NUTRITION EDUCATION AND REFERRALS
- In conjunction with the Health Project Supervisor assist in nutrition and breastfeeding work plans and other grant-related initiatives.
- Serve as the nutrition resource for WIC staff public health staff dietetic students and the community.
- Follow the guidelines according to the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) and similar standards set forth by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Implement and comply with WIC federal state and project regulations and policies in operations and systems manuals.
- Assist the Health Project Supervisor with WIC nutrition staff team meetings to ensure continuous quality improvement and excellent customer service.
- Complete all agency and State-required training.
- Assure outreach to underserved segments of the community.

- Employees assigned to the WIC Program will report to any of the City of Milwaukee WIC clinic locations. Assignment may be made on short notice to provide staff coverage during unexpected absences or emergencies.
- All WIC staff members participate in a work schedule that includes early evening hours on assigned days. The current hours of work for this position are as follows: M TU W and F 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; TH 9:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
The Community Health Nutritionist 1 must be willing and ableto do the following:
- Lift and move 25 pounds including infants and small children onto measuring apparatus such as scales.
- Carry a mobile device during business hours.
- Wear industry-relatedPersonal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves facemask or face shield to reduce exposure to infectious agents or toxins while performing the duties of this job.
- Respond to an emergency or broad impact event.
The required pre-employment tests include:
- Physical exam w/ Lift test
- Drug Screen - Non DOT
Pre-Employment Vaccination and Screening Requirements:
- Annual TB Test
- Annual Covid-19 and Influenza vaccinations
- Pre-employment immunity verification required for MMR Varicella and Hepatitis B
- If not immune vaccination or an approved exemption is required.
- Vaccination series only needs to be done once.
- Associate degree from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND)-approved dietetic technician programORa bachelors degree in nutritional sciences dietetics or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics registration as a Dietetic Technician Registered (DTR) at the time of appointment and throughout employment.NOTE:Candidates who possess a related bachelors degree as described in #1 above are not required to be DTR certified.
- Must meet State of Wisconsin WIC mandates regarding lactation management and care per Wisconsin WIC Operations Manual within one year of appointment.
- Ability to travel independently throughout Milwaukee either by transit bicycle or automobile. Private Auto Allowance May Be Paid Pursuant to Section 350-183 of The Milwaukee Code.

- Ability to provide interpretation in Spanish Hmong or another language.
TECHNICAL
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices in the field of nutrition.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice in the field of breastfeeding.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practice in the field of public health.
- Ability to read and interpret work-related documents.
- Ability to work with infants and small children.
- Ability to take measurements such as height and weight accurately.
- Ability to perform iron and lead testing.
- Ability to learn and use the ROSIE web-based software system and standard computer software applications.
- Ability to develop and conduct presentations and educational classes.

- Skill in verbal communication to effectively present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups of managers clients customers and the public.
- Skill in written communication including the ability to compose relevant legible counseling notes.

The current salary range(Pay Range 3PN) is$59952-$79542annuallyand the current incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is$62350-$82723annually.Appointmentabove the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and otherqualifications and is subject to approval.
