Note. This role is a required live-on campus position.

The Community Director (CD) reporting to an Assistant Director for Residential Districts or to a Program Manager is a member of the Residential Education team. This individual provides residents and student-staff living in the dorm with support and leadership promotes an inclusive community educates about residential community standards and provides crisis response and management. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement combining on-site work with remote work flexibility.

Housing & Residential Life (Housing) a self-funded auxiliary housed within Campus Life at the University of Arizona operates 23 dorms and 1 graduate apartment complex that house over 7800 students annually on the University of Arizona Main Campus. More than 80% of on-campus residents are first-year students. Our dorms range in style from historic to modern and range in size from 60 to 1000 residents. While the University does not require students to live on campus more than 70% of all incoming first-year students choose to live in UA housing to help their transition to university life.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage buildingcommunities ranging from 60-1020; 6-26 Resident Assistants and possibly aGraduate Community Director Lead RA and/or Office Assistant.
  • Facilitateindividual one-on-one meetings with staff to engage in ongoing professional andcommunity development review student and facilities concerns and evaluatestaff.
  • Oversee weeklystaff meetings to review Wildcat Living Student Engagement Model departmental noticesstudent and facilities updates and ongoing training.
  • Administerstaff selection and evaluate processes.
  • Aid in thedevelopment and execution of departmental trainings around interpersonalcommunication relationship building conflict mediation crisis managementand cultural competency skills.
  • CommunityDevelopment:
    • Develop apositive and inclusive working and living environment for staff and students byimplementing and evaluating Wildcat Living Student Engagement Model emphasizingFocus Areas of Wildcat Spirit and Traditions Academic Success and Wellbeing.
  • BehavioralEducation Management:
    • Provide crisisintervention and resources to residents and staff in need while serving oncampus-wide on-call duty rotation.
    • Serve ashearing officer and facilitate students conduct meetings on a weekly basis topromote opportunities for student accountability and reflection.
  • Advising:
    • Advise HallCouncil student leaders and oversee the development of their leadership andadvocacy skills.
  • Administrationand General Expectations:
    • Perform avariety of administrative duties including but not limited to assessmentsreports occupancy and budgetary management purchasing and processingreceipts and payroll health and safety checks facilitating residence hallopening and closing.

  • Knowledge andunderstanding of supporting marginalized students or underrepresented students.
  • Excellentinterpersonal relationships skills.
  • Strong abilityto effectively lead teams of students.
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Excel Outlook Power Point Word Teams and Zoom.

  • Strong writtenand verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters degree in Higher Education Administration Student PersonnelAdministration Counseling or a related field upon employment and 1 year ofresidential experience at the full-time level OR a combination of equivalentexperience.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of residential experience at the graduate level.
  • Experience in all the following areas: supervision advising student groups conduct adjudication crisis management/duty and administrative responsibilities.
  • Experience working in residence life or related area.
  • Experience working with different populations.
  • Experience supervising and/or advising students.
  • Cell phone and/or remote connectivity.
