Normandale Community College seeks a professional counselor to provideculturally responsiveacademic careerand personal counseling to enrolled students. The successful candidate may also teach 2-3 sections of a 1-credit course for students each semester CCD 1170 Career Exploration. This position involvesworkingan academic calendar whereby the 162.5 working contract days are spread over the academic year from August May typically five days per week Monday Friday with at least 3 days on campus.

Those hired into these positions will be expected to advance this goal through culturally responsive teachingidentifyingbarriers to success for students of color and proposing effective solutions toeliminatethose barriers. Candidates hired who do not have a background in culturally responsive teaching will be expected to complete the Colleges training.

• Masters degree in counseling clinical mental health counseling counseling psychology or social work

• One or more years ofexperience as a professional counselor

• Current Minnesota Licensure as an LPC LPCC LP or LICSW as of the first day of employment

• Experience supporting individuals and communities from traditionally marginalized and underrepresented populations

• Experience working as a counselor in higher education specifically in an advising career counselingor mental health center.

• Experience creating and implementing educational outreach and programming.

• Supervisedinternshipin counseling including experiences with mental health counseling and crisis intervention.

• Previousexperience teachingcareerexplorationand/orfirstyearexperiencecourses includinguseofculturally responsive pedagogical practices.

• Experience in online learning and in course delivery using web-based course management systems such as D2L (Desire to Learn Brightspace).

• Experience interpreting career and personality assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) or CliftonStrengths

• Proficiencyin a second language such as Somali or Spanish
