Job Summary
Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio (LASCO)s mission is to provide civil legal aid and advocacy to overcome unfairness and injustice reduce poverty and increase opportunity. LASCO has a long-standing history of being committed to searching out the patterns causes of and solutions to the repetitive and fundamental legal problems facing low-income Ohioans and pursuing the legal recourse needed to address those problems. Since 1966 our organizations have helped thousands of Ohios poor obtain and keep housing secure public benefits worked with families to gain and maintain economic stability and helped domestic violence survivors to live free of fear and abuse and to obtain the resources needed to sustain themselves and their children.
LASCO is pleased to offer the Communications Internship opportunity. The Internship is housed within our Communication and Development team and helps amplify LASCOs message engage supporters and build lasting community relationships. We are currently accepting applications for the Fall 2026 term.
The Communications Intern will play an important role in supporting our outreach and development efforts during a pivotal time for our organization. Working closely with the Communications Director and the development team the intern will contribute to a variety of communication initiatives that inform and engage our stakeholdersincluding clients donors pro bono attorneys and community partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing our communications and outreach plan.
- Draft design and curate content for monthly newsletters including client stories updates and impact highlights.
- Support the creation and distribution of LASCOs summer fundraising appeal including database management donor research and messaging.
- Help manage social media content and coordinate outreach with press and media outlets.
- Attend and contribute to weekly communications and development team meetings.
- Conduct research and contribute ideas to strengthen stakeholder engagement.

Desired Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills tailored to different audiences.
- Experience using Canva Hootsuite or Mailchimp (not required)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Creative organized and eager to learn.
- Interest or experience in nonprofit communications marketing public relations or fundraising is a plus.
- Passion for social justice and serving under-served communities.
The Internship
The Communications Internship term will be based on the school year semester and run between September and November. The Internship anticipates between 30 - 40 hours worked per week over the 10-week period with virtual components as well as hybrid work flexibility. The Internship is funded at a rate of $20 per hour and is based in Columbus Ohio.
Interns will have a dedicated workspace and access to the necessary equipment tools and materials to complete assignments including a computer and other resources.
