CNC MachinistProgrammer Intern

GENERAL SUMMARY:

This 1026-week internship supports the Tooling Engineering Department by assisting with tooling fixture and manufacturing engineering projects that directly support production operations. This position provides hands-on experience with CNC machining conventional machining tooling design and repair additive manufacturing (3D printing) precision measurement and engineering project execution.

Incumbent will work alongside experienced Tooling Engineers Machinists Manufacturing personnel and Safety professionals to develop technical skills while contributing to real-world projects. This internship is designed to provide meaningful exposure to advanced manufacturing technologies engineering problem-solving continuous improvement initiatives and tooling development processes within a production environment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Assist with setup and operation of CNC and conventional machine tools under supervision.
• Support the fabrication modification repair and maintenance of tooling fixtures gauges and other manufacturing equipment.
• Read and follow blueprints engineering drawings setup sheets and work instructions.
• Assist in measuring and inspecting parts using precision measuring instruments.
• Support tooling and fixture projects through fabrication assembly and documentation activities.
• Learn CNC programming concepts machine setup procedures and machining best practices.
• Assist with tool organization inventory management and shop housekeeping activities.
• Support material tracking parts procurement and project coordination efforts.
• Participate in design reviews and project meetings as assigned.
• Assist with setup and operation of additive manufacturing and 3D printing equipment when applicable.
• Help maintain production project and quality records.
• Communicate project status concerns and improvement opportunities to supervisors and team members.
• Partner with the Safety Team to ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements and safe work practices.
• Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings blueprints and technical documents.
• Pursuing career in machining manufacturing tooling and engineering processes.
• Basic understanding of machine shop practices and manufacturing principles preferred.
• Familiarity with CNC machining concepts and G-Code programming preferred.
• Ability to use or learn precision measuring instruments.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to learn CNC programming setup and machining operations.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Currently student or recent graduate of Technology Machining Engineering Engineering Technology Industrial Technology or a related 2 or 4-year program.
• High school diploma or equivalent required or in progress for qualified students.
• Coursework or exposure to machining manufacturing CAD CNC programming or engineering principles preferred.
• Experience with machine tools shop equipment robotics CAD software or technical coursework is a plus but not required.
• Experience with welding fabrication additive manufacturing (3D printing) or other manufacturing technologies is a plus.
• Prior internship school project vocational training or shop experience preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to stand walk bend stoop reach and perform repetitive movements throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift push pull or carry up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use hand tools machine controls and precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to work in an environment with exposure to noise dust machinery and varying temperatures.
