Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Lathe Programmer / Setup Machinist to own and operate a 4-machine Doosan lathe cell producing precision aerospace components. This is a hands-on role responsible for programming setup process optimization and troubleshooting in a fast-paced AS9100-compliant environment.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring quality throughput and on-time delivery with a strong emphasis on continuous improvement and machining excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Programming
- Create modify and optimize CNC programs for Doosan lathes (Fanuc or similar controls).
- Interpret engineering drawings GD&T and specifications to develop accurate machining strategies.
- Select appropriate tooling speeds feeds and cutting strategies for optimal performance and tool life.
Setup & Operation
- Perform complete machine setups including tooling fixturing work offsets and program prove-outs.
- Run first article parts and make necessary adjustments to meet dimensional and surface finish requirements.
- Ensure setups are repeatable and documented for production runs.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all parts meet aerospace quality standards and customer specifications.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measurement tools (micrometers calipers gauges CMM as applicable).
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) and maintain compliance with AS9100 requirements.
Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
- Diagnose and resolve machining tooling and program-related issues.
- Perform root cause analysis for scrap rework or process inconsistencies.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Quality to implement corrective actions.
Cell Ownership & Collaboration
- Take ownership of the 4-machine Doosan lathe cell performance uptime and output.
- Coordinate with Production Engineering and Quality teams to meet schedule and delivery commitments.
- Train and support operators on machine operation setups and best practices.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing shop environment with exposure to machinery coolant chips and noise
- Standing for extended periods and lifting moderate weights may be required
Qualifications
Required
- 5 years CNC lathe programming and setup experience
- Experience with Doosan lathes and Fanuc controls
- Aerospace machining experience (tight tolerances exotic materials)
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Ability to program at the machine (G-code)
Preferred
- Multi-axis / live tooling experience
- CAM software (Mastercam or similar)
- Lean Manufacturing experience
