Job Summary

The Lake Chelan School District has an opening for a paraeducator to work up to 6.5 hours per day starting the 2026/2027 school year. This position will support students in Chelan Middle with the Learning Assistance Program (LAP).

The LAP (Learning Assistance Program) Paraprofessional supports students by providing targeted academic and behavioral intervention to foster student success and independence. This role involves working under the supervision of a certified teacher or specialist to implement academic supports reinforce positive behavior plans provide direct assistance to students and help create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.


Compensation:

Base Salary: $21.70 - $25.47 per hour (dependent upon prior school district experience in the same job classification).

Education Adjustments: * Additional $0.75 per hour for an Associates Degree (AA). Additional $1.00 per hour for a Bachelors Degree (BA). Additional $0.25 per hour for 50 completed clock hours.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associates degree 72 college credits OR passing score on the PRAXIS ParaPro Assessment.
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting particularly in academic support or behavior management preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills patience flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of child development instructional strategies and positive behavior interventions.


Key Responsibilities:

Academic Support

    • Provide small group or individualized instructional support in core academic areas (such as reading writing and math) as directed by the teacher.
    • Assist students with classroom tasks adapting materials and modifying curriculum to meet individual learning needs.
    • Help students develop effective study habits organizational skills and time-management strategies.

Behavior Support

    • Implement and reinforce positive behavior support plans and interventions under the guidance of teaching and administrative staff.
    • Support students in developing social-emotional skills self-regulation and appropriate classroom behavior.
    • De-escalate challenging behaviors using approved positive intervention techniques.

Classroom Management

    • Help maintain a safe focused and supportive learning environment conducive to student achievement.
    • Monitor student behavior across various school settings (classroom commons etc.) to ensure safety and engagement.

Data Collection and Documentation

    • Collect record and track data on student academic progress and behavioral goals as required by the educational team.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential student records.

Collaboration and Communication

    • Work collaboratively with teachers interventionists and other school staff to support comprehensive student development.
