Job Duties:
- Perform moderate and high complexity testing in areas of Blood Bank Hematology and Microbiology to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Validate and report results of tests performed.
- Perform quality control quality assurance and performance improvement indicators routinely in the department.
- Operate calibrate standardize and maintain instruments following established procedures.
- Perform an inventory of the reagents blood products and quality control of the machines.
- Analyze body fluids including blood urine and spinal fluid to determine the presence of normal and abnormal components
- Supervise and coordinate night shift laboratory operations including staff oversight and workflow management.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or closely related. Employer will accept foreign equivalent degree if in the same field.
Experience Requirements:
- 36 months in job offered Medical Technologist or closely related.
Special skills requirements:
- Supervising and actively working across various laboratory sections including Blood Bank Microbiology Molecular Laboratory and Core Laboratory
- Performing comprehensive examinations of human body specimens (secretions and excretions) using electronic chemical microscopic bacteriologic hematologic serologic and immunologic methods both manual and automated
- Operating monitoring and maintaining laboratory equipment including conducting routine maintenance and identifying necessary technical interventions
- Collecting and processing blood and other clinical specimens (e.g. urine stool) ensuring strict adherence to established laboratory quality assurance and safety protocols
- Must have a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or International Medical Laboratory (IMLS) Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- Must have a California Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) License from the California Department of Public Health
