The Student Health and Counseling Center within the Division of Student Affairs strives to support students in achieving their academic professional and personal goals. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Clinical Laboratory Scientist I. Duties and Responsibilities

Working under the direction of a Physician Laboratory Director the Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) I is a licensed professional who provides essential laboratory services to assist medical clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients and in the prevention of illness. Performs a wide variety of clinical laboratory tests and examinations as well as quality control and assurance using manual methods or applicable mechanical and electronic equipment. Tests range from low to moderately complex in nature involving multiple steps and procedures and requiring professional judgment. Performs phlebotomy services. Participates in proficiency testing and competency testing as assigned and performs preventive maintenance programs established in the laboratory. Assists when necessary at the laboratory reception area. Uses computerized laboratory software to complete work assignments. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Must possess the requisite education for licensing which as a bachelors degree in clinical laboratory science natural science or equivalent from an accredited institution or equivalent post-secondary education training and experience as defined by the California Division of Laboratory Science. Must possess a thorough knowledge of the theories principles and practices of clinical laboratory science including the use and care of all applicable laboratory equipment; working knowledge of the preparation of specimens; working knowledge of various laboratory disciplines tests and procedures including chemical physical microscopic microbiological bacteriological serological hematological immunological and other related disciplines and laboratory tests; basic knowledge of mycology virology and genetics; working knowledge of automated information systems used in clinical laboratory settings; general knowledge of clinical laboratory quality control and assurance procedures protocols and standards; and general knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the operation of a clinical laboratory. Special phlebotomy skills and experience taken into consideration. Prior use and knowledge of laboratory computer technology.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the College of Health. National licensing from the American Society for Clinical Pathology and/or a specialty certification in areas such as hematology or microbiology. Phlebotomy skills.

License/Certifications

A valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license is required.
