Under supervision performs tasks which may be routine and repetitive but are usually not readily learned which require some independent judgment and policy interpretation. Verifies the accuracy and adequacy of lists applications and/or forms; issues legal documents such as licenses titles and permits to members of the public; answers the telephone and when necessary routes calls; interacts with members of the public to advise them on a full range of departmental policies and procedures and their application.
Knowledge of:

- English language to include grammar sentence structure spelling punctuation and proofreading skills
Ability to:
- Learn apply and articulate departmental policies and procedures
- Make decisions requiring interpretation of policy
- Collect data keep accurate records and prepare reports
- Represent Johnson County and perform duties in a professional responsible and trustworthy manner
- Operate common office equipment such as typewriters calculators cash registers fax and postage machines photocopiers multi-line telephones scanners and microfiche printers/readers
- Use a computer for the purposes of data entry spreadsheets word processing email and the Internet
- Provide customer service that is professional courteous and responsive
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers supervisors and members of the public
- Interact effectively with persons representing widely divergent backgrounds interests and points of view
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks
- Make bookkeeping entries and complete business forms

- Lift and/or move up to 35 pounds as needed
- Work flexible schedule and occasional overtime as needed
MINIMUM EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from high school (or equivalent) AND six (6) months of clerical experience; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
Special requirements: Must pass background check. Valid drivers license preferred and insurable under County liability coverage. May also require use of personal vehicle for official business.
SPECIFIC DUTIES: to be performed satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Meets members of the public and advises them of a full range of state and county laws and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and property tax.
- Issues titles registrations and other legal Department of Transportation (DOT) documents both at the counter and through the mail.
- Verifies the accuracy and adequacy of lists applications and/or forms submitted by automobile dealers and the general public.
- Collects a variety of fees verifying that the proper amount is paid issues receipts when applicable. Balances previous days business when assigned to cash drawer.
- Answers the telephone and responds to inquiries; and when necessary routes phone calls.
- Files or scans documents related to the operation of the Treasurers Office.
- Performs computer functions as they relate to the operation of the Treasurers Department such as entering information into the DOT system bank book miscellaneous receipts real estate and mobile home systems.
- Prepares and processes outgoing mail.
- Cross-trains with co-workers and rotates through all work areas for departmental efficiency.
- May provide back-up for Clerk IIs in other offices/departments during peak demand.
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with County policies procedures collective bargaining agreement and safety practices.
- Attends work regularly at the designated place and time.
