Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a motivated Civil/Environmental Engineering Intern to join our Water Wastewater and Conveyance team in Columbus Ohio. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering to gain hands-on experience supporting the planning design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams while gaining exposure to engineering design hydraulic analysis field investigations and project delivery. This internship is designed to provide meaningful technical experience and professional development within one of the industrys leading infrastructure consulting firms.
The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Assist engineers with the planning and design of municipal water distribution systems wastewater collection systems pump stations force mains gravity sewers and conveyance infrastructure.
- Support the preparation of engineering calculations technical reports specifications and construction documents.
- Assist in developing engineering drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and other engineering software.
- Perform engineering research data collection and technical analyses to support project design.
- Assist with hydraulic calculations and system evaluations under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Participate in field investigations site visits construction observations and condition assessments as required.
- Support project teams with preparation of cost estimates feasibility studies and technical memorandums.
- Assist with organizing project documentation and maintaining engineering records.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil structural mechanical electrical geotechnical and environmental engineers.
- Learn and apply AECOM engineering standards quality procedures and safety practices while supporting project delivery.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Environmental Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelors degree and plan to continue with the Masters degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelors degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship
- Due to the nature of work US Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong academic performance with coursework in hydraulics fluid mechanics water resources environmental engineering or wastewater engineering.
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D through coursework internships or personal projects.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and Word.
- Exposure to GIS hydraulic modeling software or engineering design software through coursework is a plus.
- Strong analytical problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Previous engineering internship co-op research experience or participation in engineering organizations is a plus.
