Chemical Operations Technician (Powder Blending)

Summary:

We are hiring a Chemical Operations Technician under the direction of the area manager who will handle and process explosive powders and propellants. The Chemical Operations Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently handling the energetic compositions used in PacSci EMC products.

The Chemical Operations Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently handling the energetic compositions used in PSEMC. Under the direction of the area manager handles and processes explosive powders and propellants with strict adherence to all Safety and Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Strict adherence to all Safety and Standard Operation Procedures
• Accurate logging of time worked to the appropriate Job Numbers
• Maintenance of accurate material movement documentationmagazineand oven inventory logs
• Accurate completion of Material traceability labels
• Assist with the tracking of interdepartmental material transport
• Delivery of material to production and other operation lines
• Cleaning of facility equipment vehiclestoolingand containers with water and/or solvents
• Handling and processing of explosive and solvent wastes
• Completion of Standard work checklists 5S activities and FOD control
• Assist in the updating of process documentation
• Participation in Daily Management meetings
• Participation in Process Hazards Analysis
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Chemical Technician II Powder Blending

• Breakdown of dry explosives into increments for the production lines and chemical analysis
• Lead the Bulk breakdown of 1.3 and 1.1 (non-initiating) explosives
• Assist in the Bulk breakdown of wet 1.1 initiating explosives
• Washing and breakdown of intermediate containers of Wet 1.1a initiating explosives into increments for delivery to the production lines and the test/ analysis departments
• Mixing of Nitrocellulose lacquers
• Methanol washing of 1.3 energetics and raw materials
• Screening of 1.3 energetics and raw materials
• Support other operations (as needed) with these activities
• Support Powder Blending group activities such as delivery inventory and site-wide clean-up of spilled energetic powder
• Must be willing to wear a full-face respirator and able to pass a respirator fit-test (no beards)
• Must be able to receive forklift training and certification
• Must be willing to train Chem-Tech level one staff

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years demonstrated experience of the safe handling of a variety of explosive materials.
• Willing to work with and handle bulk quantities of explosives
• Read and understand written instructions
• Interact effectively with all levels of the organization
• Complete documentation with a high level of accuracy
• Prioritize tasks and work on several formulations simultaneously
• Perform arithmetic calculationssuch as percentages addition subtraction division and multiplication
• 2 years experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

Working Conditions:

• Indoor and outdoor work areas
• Dayshift 10hrs 4 days a week
• Overtime availability
• Must be able to lift 55 lbs. and stand stoop and walk intermittently throughout the day while wearing Personal Protective Equipment
