The Charge Nurse manages the operations of the department. They are the leader who provides support mentorship and guidance to those who provide direct patient care. The Charge Nurse will coordinate the delivery of patient care by determining staffing needs and making patient assignments by choosing the right assignment for the right person. The Charge Nurse will ensure that all patients receive timely safe effective and high quality care. They coordinate the patients plan of care with the bedside nurse. The Charge Nurse will set the expectations regarding professional conduct and serves as a resource for the patient care unit. The Charge Nurse will hold direct and indirect care providers accountable for their professional responsibilities and adherence to regulatory guidelines. The Charge Nurse performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Mission Values and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details:

The Charge RN leads and coordinates patient care by assessing planning implementing and evaluating nursing practices in alignment with established standards. Serves as a clinical resource and supports high-quality patient outcomes.

3500 Unit Details:

Bed Numbers: 26

Nurse to Patient Ratio: 4:1 possible 5:1

Patient Population: stepdown patients cardiac drips set rates cardiac drips set rates post procedural patients cardioversions bipap airvo chest tubes post pacemakers BLS/ACLS/NIHSS common diagnosis of CHF COPD CKD

Qualifications:

  • Education:Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN Diploma or BSN)

  • Licensure:Current RN license in the hiring state or compact state required

  • Certifications:

    • BLS (AHA) required within 30 days of hire

    • Additional certifications may be required based on unit including: ACLS PALS NRP TNCC ENPC OCN CPHON PEARS S.T.A.B.L.E. C-EFM or other unit-specific credentials

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs

  • Prolonged standing and walking

  • Frequent bending reaching kneeling twisting and squatting
