Chaplain Resident

The Chaplain Resident participates in an accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) residency providing supervised spiritual and emotional care to patients families and team members of all faith traditions and those with no religious affiliation while developing professional chaplain competencies. The Chaplain Resident supports whole-person healing for those confronting serious illness making difficult treatment decisions feeling isolated or alone or experiencing conflict grief despair or feelings of hopelessness through compassionate presence and collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team to provide exceptional experiences. This position is contingent upon the students satisfactory progress in meeting the goals of the CPE curriculum.

Education:

• Participates actively and fully in the CPE program.
• Completes assignments in advance of their due date/time.
• Contributes positively to the learning of CPE peers.
• Sufficiently satisfies the outcomes and objectives of learning according to CPE standards.

Direct Patient Care:

• Participates in the provision of spiritual care for patients visitors and UPHDM team members from all faith backgrounds.
• Participates in the on-call coverage of the hospitals as assigned.
• Documents work in timely and effective manner.
• Provides specific services that support the interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
• Supports strong relationships with community partners: Eucharistic ministers community clergy Iowa Synod of the Lutheran Church Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church etc.
• Maintains confidentiality

Education: Bachelors Degree. Masters Degree and 1 successfully completed unit of CPE required. Masters Degree preferred in areas of theological study

Experience: Experience in clinical chaplaincy congregational ministry or other directly applicable work preferred.
