Job Summary

Location: Grants NM

The Pharmacist is responsible for filling medication orders monitoring patient drug therapies and providing drug information to healthcare providers. This position oversees the routine operations of the pharmacy department and manages all clinical aspects of patient drug the absence of the Pharmacy Director the Pharmacist may be required to assume leadership responsibilities and perform the essential duties of the Director.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Medication Preparation & Dispensing
  • Prepare fill label and dispense drugs parenteral medications IV solutions and drug containers accurately and safely.
  • Ensure all medications issued to patient care areas meet legal and quality standards.

Clinical Pharmacy Services:

  • Monitor patient drug therapies for safety appropriateness and effectiveness.
  • Assess interpret and communicate age-specific criteria in medication therapy.
  • Provide drug information and education to physicians nurses patients and other healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in clinical duties as required by Medical Staff departmental policies and drug protocols.

Departmental Operations:

  • Maintain adequate drug supply and manage inventory.
  • Maintain day-to-day records of Pharmacy Department transactions as required by law and policy.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and other technical personnel.
  • Participate in formulary management and Automated Dispensing Machine (ADM) changes at the direction of the Pharmacy Director.

Emergency Response:

  • Participate in Rapid Response Teams and Code Blue situations as required.

Quality Compliance & Professional Development:

  • Complete annual pharmacy competency evaluation using the Pharmacy Competency Checklist.
  • Participate in approved continuing education programs to maintain and enhance professional skills.
  • Understand and comply with the organizations Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
  • Report any observed or suspected unethical illegal or questionable conduct to the Compliance Coordinator.
  • Maintain effective interpersonal relationships with all healthcare team members and departments.

Education:

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • BS in Pharmacy required; PharmD preferred.

Licensure:

  • Current active license to practice pharmacy in the State of New Mexico (verified by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy).

Experience:

  • 1 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • New graduates with strong clinical rotations may be considered.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong clinical knowledge of pharmacology therapeutics and age-specific medication considerations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication preparation and dispensing.
  • Leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Proficiency in pharmacy information systems and automated dispensing technology.
  • Commitment to patient safety quality improvement and regulatory compliance.
