Position Overview
We are seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to support surgical procedures and ensure the efficient operation of the Surgery Department. The role includes OR scrub duties surgical instrumentation sterile technique specimen handling equipment preparation and sterile processing responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare instruments supplies equipment and the OR for surgical procedures.
- Scrub gown glove and assist with patient draping.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and immediately report any breaks in sterility.
- Handle surgical instruments correctly and anticipate the surgeons needs.
- Perform sponge and sharps counts with the Circulating Nurse.
- Assist with procedures as a first assistant when needed.
- Properly identify and preserve surgical specimens.
- Clean organize and prepare the OR between procedures.
- Restock supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Assist with orientation training and education of other personnel.
- Clean decontaminate sterilize and organize surgical instruments.
- Operate and monitor autoclaves sonic washers and other sterilization equipment.
- Organize surgical instrument trays and record sterilizer test results.
- Inspect equipment for defects leaks broken or loose parts.
- Support safe and efficient surgical operations while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist training program OR
- Minimum 1 year of OR scrub nursing experience; may be waived at the discretion of the OR Supervisor.
- Current BLS certification required.
- Central Supply Technician certification is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures instruments aseptic technique and OR setup.
- Ability to properly handle tissue specimens cultures and smears.
- Knowledge of surgical equipment and instrumentation.
- Ability to tolerate exposure to blood and body tissue.
- Willingness to work different shiftsweekends and call as scheduling requires.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow sterilization and safety protocols.
