What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications):

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent (e.g. GED HiSET) required.
• Lived Experience: Personal experience as a consumer within the child welfare probation or mental health systems required.
• Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience providing non-professional consumer-directed services in a mental health healthcare or social services setting preferred.

Certifications & Compliance:

• First Aid Certification: Valid certification from an accredited provider (e.g. American Red Cross).
• Drivers License: Valid California Drivers License with a driving record that meets company policy eligibility.
• Peer Support Specialist Certification: Must successfully complete certification within one year of employment.

How you will make a difference (Job Overview):

The position has primary responsibility for using their lived experience and knowledge of the system to provide outreach and engagement support advocacy and direct services to program clients of all age ranges. Peer Support Counselors are people who have lived experience in the mental health judicial and/or social service systems in some capacity. They serve as role models companions educators and advocates to our clients. The Peer Support Counselors will support clients in moving toward recovery creating a meaningful role in their life which is separate from their illness

Facility & Setting:

• 16-bed residential facility offering a short-term home-like environment.
• 24/7 intensive treatment is designed as an alternative to hospitalization or urgent care.

Clinical Services:Comprehensive physical/psychological evaluations mental health counseling and case management.

Skills & Transition: Life-skills and interpersonal training paired with dedicated assistance for locating permanent housing.
