Summary
Initiates and documents the patients chief complaint relevant medical history and pertinent ocular findings at an advanced level consistent with certification (including versions and ductions pupil function lensometry to identify and measure prism and motility). Performs testing and assists the provider with procedures injections and treatments. Educates patients regarding the administration of medications pre- and post-operative instructions. Reviews and educates patients on intraocular lens implant options on behalf of the physician. Aids in clinical development of staff and as a resource for training.
Job Duties
- Prepares patients for physicians by doing initial visual screening exams including but not limited to Keratotomy Corneal Topography Visual Fields Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) specular microscopy Biometry and B-Scan Ultrasound. Provides and records preliminary screening examinations per written procedures for physician review.
- Scribes physician exam and patient instructions into the patients medical record. Educates patients regarding administration of medications and pre and post-operative instructions as directed by physician. Reviews and educates patients on intraocular lens options as directed by physician.
- Assists in training/development of clinical team members.
- Assists with minor surgery procedures intraocular injections and laser treatments in exam/treatment room.
- Maintains ophthalmic instruments and equipment per written procedures.
- Ensures adequate inventory of medical supplies educational materials and medications are available for patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 15 years experience within an Ophthalmology practice
- COA
- COT
- COMT - Certified Ophthalmic Medical Tech - JCAHPO Upon Hire
Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing frequent keyboard use *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling bending squatting and performing CPR.
