Location: Central High School

Reports To:Building Principal

Work Schedule/FLSA Status:pernegotiated agreement/ Exempt

2026/27Step 1 with a Bachelors Degree:$51380 Step 1 with a Masters Degree:$58023

Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience. Placement on the salary schedule will follow the applicablenegotiated agreement.

Position Purpose:Provides secondary engagement services academic and school attendance support to assist students with navigating a path toward graduating high school.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelors Degree with a focus in education
  • Previous work experience with youth
  • Previous work experience in a multicultural setting
  • Proficient in software applications including Windows Office 365 Word Excel and Access preferred.
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Bilingual Language skills preferred
  • Demonstrate proficiency of the English language to read and communicate with others
  • Ability and patience to work interactively with students
  • Excellent skills in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to understand the individual needs of each student
  • Displays a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance
  • Knowledge of OPSs mission purpose goals and the role of every employee in achieving each of them
  • Working knowledge of school District and community resources preferred

Essential Performance Responsibilities

  • Monitors attendance and other student data and responds by communicating with students and families
  • Manages a caseload of students providing attendance mentoring check-ins and support for accessing resources
  • Communicates with families and other school support people on a regular basis
  • Conducts home visits to identify ways to support students and families in school attendance
  • Builds connections with community support and opportunities for students.
  • Communicates with students and families regarding school programs and supports as well as student accomplishments and needs
  • Seeks new and efficient ways to reach students and meet needs in high school resulting in dropout prevention
  • Provides academic support to students as needed or appropriate
  • Leads rapid cycles of improvement that inform schools next steps in attendance intervention
  • Interfacing with district partners to monitor and respond to data being pulled and reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Leads and facilitates school attendance team including initiatives recognition and data monitoring
  • Provides professional development to staff to monitor and support student attendance
  • Leads and facilitates the Student Assistance Team process for the school and responsibilities associated with this role
  • Follows oral and written directions accurately
  • May perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory personnel

Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the board of education through the Superintendent of Schools or the Trustees.

Equipment:This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment such as computers copiers scanners and fax machines. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use

Travel:Limited travel may be required

Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:

  • Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions
  • Ability to read and use information from written materials and visual displays
  • Ability to bend kneel stoop and maintain balance while performing job-related tasks
  • Ability to work in standing/walking positions on a frequent basis throughout the work shift

Interrelations:

  • Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors
  • Will be working under the direct supervision of the Principal or supervisory personnel in order to complete day-to-day tasks
  • Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

  • In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
  • Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
  • All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.

Terms of Employment

This position is treated as a full-time exempt certified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.

Terms of employment are contingent upon:

  • Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.
  • A background check which demonstrates background is acceptable for the position sought and working with or around students.
  • Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
  • Execution and delivery to OPS of a Teacher Contract presented by OPS.
