Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides exceptional customer service while performing advanced donor eligibility determinations donor registration medical history screening limited physical assessments and automated plasmapheresis procedures. Independently performs donor screening setup monitoring troubleshooting and disconnect of automated plasmapheresis equipment while ensuring donor safety and product quality. Responsible for the accurate and timely processing sampling testing storage and shipment of plasma collected from donors. Ensures plasma units and donor samples are processed labeled frozen stored and shipped in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Serves as the lead operational resource for the donor floor by coordinating daily collection activities mentoring staff assisting with training and competency assessments monitoring donor flow and ensuring compliance with FDA regulations OSHA requirements CLIA requirements IQPP Standards current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). May oversee daily collection operations in the absence of the Center Supervisor or Center Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provides exceptional customer service while treating donors employees and visitors with professionalism dignity and respect.
2. Performs all assigned duties in accordance with FDA regulations OSHA requirements CLIA requirements IQPP Standards cGMP company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Brings compliance and safety issues to the attention of management.
3. Performs donor registration donor identification verification medical history screening limited physical assessments and donor eligibility determinations.
4. Performs finger stick collection and accurately determines donor hematocrit (HCT) and total protein using approved testing equipment.
5. Maintains good attendance and punctuality in accordance with the attendance policy.
6. Performs all duties related to the collection and handling of plasma products (e.g. computerized medical history screening plasma phlebotomy collection handling donor recovery and adverse reactions loading set-up and tear down of equipment packing and handling of blood products and performing daily quality control). Cleaning stocking and some maintenance.
7. Performs single and multi-component apheresis collections procedures.
8. Independently performs setup operation monitoring troubleshooting and disconnect of automated plasmapheresis equipment.
9. Continuously monitors donors during donation procedures and responds appropriately to donor adverse reactions.
10. Collects donor samples retest samples and other laboratory specimens in accordance with SOPs.
11. Works as part of a team to achieve daily team production goals.
12. Demonstrates excellent communication skills in accordance with current customer service standards to represent a positive image for the organization.
13. Maintains complete and accurate records related to donor procedures quality control cleaning records and training documentation within the electronic donor management system.
14. Performs equipment quality control calibration inspection cleaning preventive maintenance and troubleshooting as assigned.
15. Reports quality concerns compliance issues unsafe conditions equipment failures and unethical behavior immediately to management.
16. Cross-training into additional production areas is expected to maintain operational flexibility and provide leadership support.
17. Maintains a clean organized and sanitary donor care environment.
18. Oversees daily donor flow and collection operations in the absence of the Center Supervisor or Center Manager.
19. Monitors production goals staffing assignments workflow efficiency and operational priorities throughout the shift.
20. Serves as a mentor preceptor trainer and resource for new and current employees by providing hands-on instruction and documenting competency progress.
21. Assists management with competency evaluations retraining activities quality investigations CAPAs inspections internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
22. Reviews operational metrics identifies workflow opportunities and communicates recommendations to management.
23. Actively recruits donors for apheresis donation and educates donors regarding promotions and new initiatives (e.g. ExpressPass PlasmaShare Inc. App etc.).
24. Works at plasma center to support the production goals and meeting donor plasma needs.
25. Recognizes signs and symptoms of pre-adverse reaction. Responds to and handles pre-adverse reactions per SOP and notifies medical staff.
26. Maintains confidentiality of donor employee and company information.
27. Reviews Title 21 assignments and ensures assigned training is completed within required timelines.
28. Responsible for oversight of collection operations in the absence of a supervisor or manager.
29. Performs responsibilities and functions of a plasma center lead including proper documentation of daily activities and monitors donor flow and stats required by Quality Assurance.
30. Ensures employees follow established timekeeping meal period and rest break procedures.
31. Ensures excellent customer service is provided to every donor and visitor at the plasma center.
32. Assists with training and quality initiatives and supports center operations through compliance with FDA regulations OSHA requirements CLIA requirements IQPP Standards current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) company policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Reports trainee progress back to management.
33. Conducts confidential and effective interviews with donors to obtain necessary information.
34. Performs other duties at the discretion of management as assigned.

COMPLEXITY
Work involves multiple related and unrelated technical processes requiring sound judgment critical thinking and independent decision-making. The employee routinely evaluates donor eligibility equipment performance product quality operational priorities and compliance requirements while recognizing and responding to changing circumstances. Duties frequently require analysis of incomplete information and selection of the most appropriate course of action within established procedures.

NATURE AND EXTENT OF SUPERVISION PROVIDED TO THE POSITION
The supervisor makes assignments by defining objectives priorities and deadlines assisting the employee with unusual situations with no clear precedents. Employee plans and executes steps to complete the assignment following instructions policies and previous training or accepted practices. Completed work is evaluated for soundness appropriateness and conformity to policy. Methods used by the employee are not reviewed in detail. Occasionally the supervisor sets overall objectives and resources available with deadlines and work plans developed in consultation with the employee with some opportunity for the employee to interpret policy or determine approaches and methodology for accomplishing assignments.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.

Optional: Medical Assistant Diploma Certified Nursing Assistant Diploma Emergency Medical Technician Certificate Phlebotomy Certificate or similar military experience/certification.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Center Technician I or equivalent experience in a plasma collection center blood collection center or regulated healthcare environment. Demonstrated competency in donor screening plasmapheresis procedures quality control and equipment operation is required.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES ETC.
CPR Certification is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires prolonged standing and walking frequent use of hands and fingers repetitive motions bending reaching and squatting. Frequently lifts carries pushes and pulls supplies equipment and materials weighing up to 35 pounds with occasional assistance for heavier items when appropriate. Employees must be able to safely operate medical equipment read computer screens and documentation communicate effectively with donors and coworkers and respond quickly to donor emergencies. Frequently uses hands and fingers for clinical procedures computer operation documentation and handling medical equipment Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves gowns face protection and cold-weather protective gear when accessing plasma freezers. Must be able to safely navigate all areas of the donor center and work in a fast-paced highly regulated clinical environment. Refer to Job Function Assessment below for physical demands.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a plasma collection center with moderate noise levels. Employees are routinely exposed to biological fluids with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Work includes operation of laboratory and plasmapheresis equipment and occasional exposure to temperatures as low as -40C while accessing plasma freezers. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves protective eyewear laboratory garments and cold-weather protective gear must be worn as required.
