Duties performed under district supervision of the Chief Probation Officer include monitoring and coordinating activities associated with low-risk probation cases; assist in the preparation of investigative reports; preparing alleged probation violations; coordinating and administering offender assessments; arranging and conducting alcohol and drug testing on offenders conduct curfew checks; initiating and monitoring treatment referrals as well as payment of fines restitution and community service. Obtain demographic criminal and driving histories on offenders. Meet with individuals to obtain background information and assess appropriate levels of supervision according to standards. Explain terms of probation to individuals and make appropriate referrals consistent with court order. Supervise assigned administrative and minimum-risk cases in accordance with System standards. Maintain appointment schedules and case notes on probationers. Assist with collateral investigations and administer assessments monitor database information for accuracy and alert staff regarding releases extensions violations or terminations. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasional regional travel isto support district needs attend training and conduct community supervision field visits.

Salary and Compensation:

  • Starting Salary:$ 38878.81 annually (Hiring Rate).

  • Immediate Growth*:Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing your original probational period (if starting at Hiring Rate).

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Associate degree in criminal justice medical/laboratory or a related area. Or one year of experience as a drug technician or related position.

Consideration will be given to candidates receiving their degree within 90 days of application.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Basic principles practices and procedures of probation services.

  • Related Federal State and local laws regulations and procedure

  • Knowledge of the community and its resources.

  • Rules regulations and procedures of the Judicial Branch.

  • Current probation practices techniques and procedures.

  • Report writing.

  • Interviewing techniques.

  • Tracking technologies.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Making home-visits.

  • Ability to effectively organize time set priorities and work under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to meet recurring deadlines.

  • Interviewing clients.

  • Tracking clients location(s).

  • Utilizing probation and protective techniques.

  • Applying applicable laws rules and regulations.

  • Preparing activity reports and updating databases.

  • Operating computers and applicable software applications.

ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to learn all computer and other technological applications utilized by the Nebraska Probation System and develop a working knowledge of each.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to effectively organize time set priorities and work under stressful conditions.

  • Ability to learn applicable electronic criminal justice or other relevant database procedures and use of each.

  • Ability to communicate understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to display a professional demeanor; establish and maintain effective working relationships with criminal justice personnel probation participants and others.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents may be subject to travel.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires use of arm and/or leg controls and exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work.
