Status:Full-time(35hourper week)

Role Summary:The Asylum Case Manager Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the Director of Social Services primarily focused on the unique needs and challenges faced by asylum seekers. This position involves overseeing day-to-day operations of the Social Services Department ensuring the provision of comprehensive support and services to asylum seekers under the guidance of the Director of Social Services. Asylum shelters are exempt from DHS housing placement performance measures.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Duties:

The Asylum Case Manager Supervisor willbe responsible for but not limitedto:

  • Ensurestrict adherence to organizational policies and procedures with a special emphasis on conflict resolution specific to asylumseekers.
  • Collaboratewith the Director of Social Servicesin approvingemployee timesheets and time off requests recognizing the importance of a flexible schedule for our diverseclientele.
  • Playan active role in shaping departmental goalsobjectives policies and procedures offering recommendations for continuous improvement to meet the evolving needs of asylumseekers.
  • Leada team of case managers in the development of service/treatment plans discharge plans and follow-up care programs tailored to asylumseekers.
  • Managethe recruitment supervision monitoring and evaluation of social services staff ensuring they are well-equipped to address the unique challenges faced by asylumseekers.
  • Establishand implement schedules and work assignments within the social services department tooptimizesupport to asylumseekers.
  • Providecrisis intervention and emergency services as necessary recognizing the vulnerability of the populationserved.
  • Ensurecase managers provide all necessary and culturally sensitive services including housing employment and therapeutic placements considering the specific needs of asylumseekers.
  • Overseethe orientation and training of new employees emphasizing cultural competency and sensitivity in working with asylumseekers.
  • Maintaincomprehensive supervisory case notes referrals and related documentation recognizing the importance of documenting the unique challenges faced by asylumseekers.
  • Facilitateongoing communication with all supervisorsregardingsocial services matters and their impact on asylumseekers.
  • Coordinateservices to ensure the shelteroperatessafely comfortably and in full compliance with DHS and OTDA regulations as they relate to asylumseekers.
  • Generateregular progress reports emphasizing the progress and challenges faced by asylumseekers.
  • Collaborateclosely with housing specialists and employment services staff to assess asylum seekers readiness for housing and/oremployment.
  • Organizeandfacilitatecommunity outreach and related activities tailored to the specific needs of asylumseekers.
  • Actas a liaison and representative for community interactions asrequired fostering positive relationships thatsupport the well-being of asylum seekers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk stand kneel crouch and bend over.
  • Ability to lift reach and handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to travel todifferent locationswithin New York City as needed.

Work Environment / ScheduleRequirements:.

  • Staff must continue working past their shift unless relieved by another staff member or authorized to leave by a supervisor. Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
  • May beto work on or during evenings weekends and holidays.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in social work psychology sociology or related field with a minimum of 1 year of direct social service supervisory experience recognizing the importance of culturalcompetence.
  • Associatedegree in human services or related field with a minimum of 2 years of direct social service supervisory experience with an emphasis on serving diversepopulations.
  • HighSchool Diploma/General Equivalent Diploma with a minimum of 4 years of direct social service supervisory experiencedemonstratingexpertisein managing complexcases.
  • Flexibilitytoworksome evenings and occasional weekendsasnecessary to meet the needs of asylumseekers.
  • Exceptionaldemonstrated writingproficiency particularly in documenting the unique challenges faced by asylumseekers.
  • Preferredexperience in assessment direct practice counseling supervision community outreach group leadership and program development with a focus on culturalsensitivity.
  • Proficientin MS Word Excel and database management using these tools to track and report on the progress of asylumseekers.
  • Familiaritywith community resources tailored to the specific needs of asylumseekers.
  • Knowledgeablein DHS/OTDA social service documentation policies and procedures ensuringaccurateand culturally sensitivedocumentation.
  • Demonstratescritical thinking analytical and problem-solving skills along with resourcefulness in addressing the challenges faced by asylumseekers.
  • Familiaritywith community health services social service support agencies and networks that cater to asylumseekers.
  • Abilityto remain composed in crisis situations recognizing the added stressors experienced by asylumseekers.
  • Provensupervisory experience with a team-oriented approach emphasizing cultural competence andsensitivity.
  • Demonstratedability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups including staff and volunteers from various culturalbackgrounds.
  • Provenaptitude for managing multiple tasks efficiently under pressure particularly in addressing the urgent needs of asylumseekers.
  • Strongorganizational skills keen attention to detail and efficient time management ensuring that asylum seekers receivetimelyandappropriatesupport.
  • Exhibitsmaturity integrity and sound judgment particularly when making decisions thatimpactthe well-being of asylumseekers.
  • Bilingual(Spanish French Creole or other languages) preferred.
  • Must be able to read speak write and understand English for administrative purposes.
  • Must pass drug screening to be appointed.
  • This positionmay besubject to a series of investigations beforeand afterappointment.
