Hours: 37 hours per week

Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role which will be no less than once per month.

About the role:

Our Highways team is committed to delivering a high-quality road network across the region. By ensuring our highways are safe well-maintained and fit for purpose we help make Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work. As a Highways Inspector you will play a vital role in achieving this vision. You will be responsible for ensuring the network remains safe and serviceable for residents and businesses by carrying out planned inspections identifying defects and raising task orders for repairs. You will also build strong relationships by liaising with town and parish councils local councillors and other stakeholders assessing highway issues and responding addition you will help identify and deliver improvement works that enhance the overall network.

This is a role where you can make a real difference providing local people with an outstanding highway network and helping to unlock the full potential of the area to enable you to find your greatness.

Across Central Bedfordshire thousands of residents businesses and visitors use our roads every day. Youll make sure they get a good experience whether theyre walking driving or cycling. The first step is to be responsible for what is happening on the highway network in your area. Youll be the primary point of contact for elected members and town and parish councils for your area. You will assist the Highway Maintenance Manager with the management of the Councils highway asset to ensure that the resources available are used to maintain the asset in the optimum way. To make sure were working efficiently youll monitor the performance of highway contract procedures and check they comply with rules.

Youve worked in highways maintenance before so youre used to dealing with contracts works and customers. You build good working relationships drawing on strong communication skills. You also ensure Health & Safety is paramount at all times. You will be IT-literate and a natural problem solver.
