Job Summary
Job Title:CARE Assistant
We are seeking a caring dependable and student-centered CARE Assistant to join our K8 school community. This important role provides direct behavioral social-emotional and academic support to students who require additional assistance to be successful throughout the school day. Working closely with school leadership teachers counselors and student support staff the CARE Assistant helps implement individualized student support plans promotes positive behavior and fosters a safe inclusive and supportive learning environment.
The CARE Assistant plays an essential role in helping students build self-regulation develop positive relationships increase classroom engagement and successfully participate in school while supporting our commitment to equity restorative practices and whole-child development.
What Youll Do
- Provide direct supervision and support to students requiring additional behavioral emotional or social-emotional assistance throughout the school day.
- Implement behavior intervention strategies and individualized student support plans under the direction of school leadership and student support personnel.
- Build positive trusting relationships with students while modeling appropriate social skills self-regulation and conflict resolution.
- Assist students during classroom instruction transitions lunch recess arrival dismissal and other school activities as needed.
- Support teachers in maintaining positive classroom environments that maximize student engagement and learning.
- Assist with de-escalation strategies and crisis response using trauma-informed and restorative practices.
- Monitor student progress and communicate observations to teachers administrators counselors and families as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate documentation related to student support and behavioral interventions.
- Collaborate with the MTSS Student Support and School Culture teams to promote student success and positive school climate.
- Perform other duties that support student well-being and school operations.
What You Bring to the Table
- Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Education Psychology Social Work Human Services Child Development or a related field preferred (high school diploma with relevant experience considered).
- Experience working with children or adolescents in educational behavioral health youth development or community-based settings.
- Knowledge of positive behavior supports trauma-informed practices restorative approaches and social-emotional learning.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries and professionalism.
- Strong communication collaboration and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm patient and responsive in challenging situations.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive culturally responsive and student-centered learning environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment 10 months exempt
- This position is for in-person work at our location
- 180 instructional days 191 work days (new staff members work additional days for induction/orientation)
- In some cases the starting salary may be non-negotiable
- To be eligible to work for Pan American Academy Charter School you must complete and submit background clearances and paperwork prior to your start date. We can accept clearances that are less than one year old from the date a new employee presents them to Human Resources.
