Cardiac Surgery Step Down Registered Nurse

Position Purpose

At Saint Francis Hospital the Cardiac Surgery Step Down provides intermediate-level care to patients recovering from cardiac surgery including CABG valve repair/replacement and other cardiovascular procedures. The RN will deliver high-quality patient-centered care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.

What You Will Do

• Provide direct nursing care to post-operative cardiac surgery patients in a step-down setting

• Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms vital signs and hemodynamic status

• Manage chest tubes temporary pacing wires surgical incisions and IV medications

• Administer medications including cardiac drips per physician orders and protocols

• Educate patients and families on recovery medications and lifestyle modifications

• Collaborate with physicians advanced practice providers and interdisciplinary teams

• Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)

• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives

• Education: Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program.

• Licensure: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Connecticut.

• Certification: BLS (AHA/ARC) required.

• Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience (cardiac or critical care preferred)

Preferred Skills

• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.

• Experience: cardiac step-down ICU or telemetry unit

• Certification: ACLS and Stroke Certification preferred.

Position Highlights

• Full-time 36 hours Days

• Rotating Every other Weekend/Holiday

• This is an hourly position included in the RN Step Program pay range: $36.15 to $59.95.
