Position Summary
The Campus Safety Specialist is a key support role within the Public Safety Department responsible for coordinating campus safety programs security technology emergency preparedness life-safety initiatives compliance requirements and communication systems across all campuses. This position supports non-law-enforcement operations and enhances the Colleges overall safety and security posture.
The Specialist collaborates with Public Safety Campus Directors Building Safety Representatives Facilities Information Technology Human Resources Student Services and the campus community to promote a safe secure and compliant learning environment while ensuring continuity of operations and administrative support.
Direct Supervisory Responsibility: NOEssential Duties and Responsibilities
CAMPUS SAFETY TECHNOLOGY COORDINATION
- Coordinate day-to-day administration of access control video surveillance and emergency notification systems across all campuses.
- Maintain access control records credentialing documentation and access authorization records.
- Maintain documentation related to system users permissions inventories operational records and assigned security technologies.
- Coordinate access requests and collaborate with building representatives and department heads regarding building access schedules and security needs.
- Coordinate building lock and unlock schedules holiday schedules and special event access requirements.
- Conduct periodic reviews of access permissions and coordinate updates with appropriate departments.
- Coordinate authorized video retrieval requests and maintain related documentation.
- Assist with administration and maintenance of the Cardinal Alert emergency notification system. Coordinate periodic testing training and user support for Cardinal Alert and other campus safety technology systems.
- Provide training and guidance to authorized users of access control systems Cardinal Alert and other assigned campus safety platforms.
- Coordinate with Public Safety Facilities Information Technology and vendors regarding operational issues maintenance needs and system improvements.
- Coordinate all required campus drillsincluding fire severe weather active threat lockdown evacuation and other emergency preparedness drillsin accordance with ACCS requirements and college policies; coordinate with building representatives to ensure drills are completed throughout the year; and maintain related records reports and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate communication and preparedness activities with campus departments and building representatives and assist with emergency operations planning and continuity of operations planning.
- Participate in emergency preparedness initiatives threat assessment initiatives campus safety committees and related activities as assigned.
- Conduct and document monthly AED inspections across all campuses and perform periodic inspections of Naloxone (Narcan) kits Stop the Bleed kits emergency response kits and other designated life-safety equipment.
- Maintain inspection records inventories and replacement schedules for life-safety equipment and emergency supplies and coordinate replacement of expired damaged or missing supplies.
- Assist in maintaining evacuation maps emergency procedures emergency preparedness materials and related safety postings throughout campus facilities.
- Answer the departments non-emergency phone line during normal business hours.
- Receive document and route requests for service.
- Notify or dispatch Public Safety personnel when assistance is needed.
- Serve as a point of contact for non-emergency public safety matters.
- Route calls and requests to appropriate college departments when necessary.
- Assist with campus-wide emergency notifications during emergencies drills and testing events.
- Assist with parking enforcement permit administration and related processes.
- Maintain parking-related records and documentation and coordinate parking concerns complaints and non-emergency issues.
- Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance regarding parking traffic control wayfinding and safety-related signage.
- Conduct periodic campus safety and security inspections; identify safety and security concerns; and coordinate corrective actions with appropriate departments.
- Coordinate with Facilities and Maintenance on safety and security matters including signage traffic and parking control and considerations related to new construction renovations and campus improvement projects.
- Assist with special event safety planning campus safety awareness crime prevention education and security outreach initiatives.
- Serve as a resource to students and employees regarding campus safety programs and services.
- Assist with Clery Act compliance including annual reporting recordkeeping and related documentation requirements; maintain departmental logs records reports inventories inspection records and compliance documentation.
- Assist with training coordination scheduling and recordkeeping as well as departmental correspondence record management and general operational support functions.
- Provide administrative support and serve as a backup for Public Safety Department functions during employee absences vacancies special projects or periods of increased operational demand.
- Assist with public safety programs departmental initiatives special projects and provide support to the One Stop Center during peak registration enrollment and student service periods.
- Perform other non-law-enforcement duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- One (1) year of experience in public safety security emergency management or a related field required
- Valid Alabama drivers license required
- Associate degree preferred
- Strong organizational verbal written communication and coordination skills
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to changing needs
- Working knowledge of safety practices compliance standards and emergency procedures
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Proficiency in basic technology systems and databases
- Knowledge of city state and federal laws
- Ability to deal effectively with the public in emergency situations
- Must be available to work all shifts including day evening night and weekends
- Certified in first aid/CPR

SALARY:Salary Schedule E4-05 ($34292 - $51793) Based on the 2025-2026 ACCS Salary Schedules. Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED FULL-TIME directly related experience that is stated on the initial job application and resume.Be sure all experience is stated on the application!

Salary Calculation: For all positions on all Salary Schedules the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all full-time work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other full-time work experience outside of public education in Alabama that in the sole judgment of the College directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this full-time work experience within the time provided herein if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule.
