Campus Police Security Officer (Full-Time)

Position Summary

John A. Logan College is seeking a Full-time Campus Safety Officer to work in the Campus Police Department. The Campus Safety Officer supports the mission of John A. Logan College by maintaining a safe secure and respectful campus environment for students employees and visitors. This position supports proactive campus safety operations monitors campus conditions and coordinates with Campus Police and external agencies as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum age 21
• Must possess a valid Illinois drivers license
• Must pass a background check and security clearance
• Must have or obtain an Illinois PERC card within 6 months of hire
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
• Must be able to perform assigned routine physical inspections of campus safety equipment
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
• Must be able to complete 8 hours of defensive tactics and de-escalation training annually

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of basic security practices safety regulations and operational guidelines
• Knowledge of emergency procedures including medical fire and safety protocols
• General knowledge of security technology and ability to use related equipment and tools
• Strong observational skills
• Basic problem-solving skills
• Ability to remain calm professional and responsive in high-stress situations

• Security monitoring
• Reporting and documentation
• Community engagement and support
• Collaboration with college departments students and external agencies
• Participation in department meetings
• Other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

• Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Frequent walking standing and patrolling of campus grounds
• May involve exposure to high-stress or rapidly changing situations

Salary: $16.25 per hour

Hours: 40 hours per week overnight shifts
