Caminantes Paraeducator

The Amherst Public Schools are currently seeking applicants for a Paraeducator for the Caminantes program at Amethyst Brook Elementary School. This is a full-time and school-year position.

The Caminantes paraprofessional assists students ESL and general education teachers school staff and families of the Caminanates program in the following manner:

• Manages and assists individuals and small groups separately at times under the direction of supervisors(s) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and grade level standards.

• Provides classroom support through interpreting and translating instruction and information introduced by the teacher into students native language.

• Maintains documentation of learning activities and/or tutoring sessions of students as determined by the supervisor.

• Monitors individuals and/or groups of students in a variety of settings for the purpose of ensuring a safe and positive learning environment including reinforcing and supporting student academic and/or behavioral plans..

• Collaborates and works harmoniously with all other members of school staff toward the successful development of the Caminantes program.

• Ability to work with a diverse population of students within a multicultural school community

• Strong positive interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with students colleagues and supervisors

• Highly effective oral and written communication skills in Spanish.
